Looking for some. My 81 had the plug completely disintegrated when I unplugged it. It is looking like they are like 700 bucks new and a couple hundred on ebay. The rest of the hall effects sensor appeared to be working, but the plug appeared to be made of dust when I unplugged it.

And that EME plug is just the male part of the connector. What about the mating female part? Is it in good shape or available? My take is that if one went out the other half is not far behind.

    I like those Deutsch connectors.

    I've seen Vizi-Tech connectors:
    http://www.vizi-tec.com/oem-connectors/

    And there are Weatherpack connectors:
    http://www.weatherpack.com/

    And Waytec:
    http://www.waytekwire.com/products/11/Multi-Pin-Connectors/

Really, most everybody is ahead of the BMW OEM connectors, although 100% compatibility is always a question. It's the age-old "Tower of Babble"...

    My IMO, and YMMV.

I've had two of the last four plugs I worked on crumble to bits. Never the female side though, different material? A field repair would be to plug the wires together and secure everything with blue RTV.

Is there an aftermarket points in a can available, or is used the only way to go?

If my memory isn't failing me, I believe these plugs were common on many VWs and Audis of the era, so a trip to the junkyard might yield some spares. That's where I got the mating connector for my bean can tester.

Thank you for the reply. Even at 35 bucks that is a lot cheaper than a new sensor. I think I will check to see if the mating end is dead too. If it is brittle I will change out the whole connector, otherwise I think there is some value in having the original connector in case I need to get another replacement part to mate to it for another reason. I do like what the Deutsch connector looks like though. I am thinking of some other projects I might use those on either way.

I rewired my ST from scratch and used deutsch connectors for all the block connectors. Gotta buy a crimping tool, but they're great. You don't need the $200 tool. There's a $40 alternative that works every bit as well. https://theelectricaldepot.com/inde...id=585&zenid=65b748f3e9f40dae75818e9b3c8ad5d3
You'll want to use them on everything.

YEP. +1 on Airhead Wrangler's comment. I upgraded ALL my connectors to Deutsch connectors. They are the cat's ass.

Mine disintegrated to nothing when I disturbed it, and someplace here on this board was an amp connector replacement. I ordered it from Newark electronics (I think), was just a couple of bucks, shipping was more than the connector, I plugged the pins into the connector housing, plugged the connector into it's mate and started the bike right up. I cant find the thread now, but i will look more tomorrow. i know it's on here someplace.

    Found it!

    it's in this thread here:

I think it's post #9 where Warin posts the AMP part number. In #19 I say I ordered it from Newark. It's been in the bike since then without issue.

The female plug looks to be in very good shape. I will probably source the original plug. I figure I should dig through the original post that last post refers to and see if the boot is there too since that is missing also.

This is really an awesome resource. Thank you guys.
