My statement was that the WHOLE cost of repairs IF NOT DOING THE WORK PERSONALLY, (aka taking it to a shop) would be close to $4k. I have reviewed and created estimates for several ADVs that have experienced "hard landings". IF it is a INSURANCE paid for job, which would require a "shop" to complete the work, the insurance co will strongly encourage the work to be completed back to the way the vehicle was prior to the "hard landing".

Is it technically possible to repair the motorcycle? Probably. Is is a good financial decision? That is yet to be determined, but on the surface, unfortunately for this ADV there is a very high likelihood that it will become a source for parts.

cheers to a good used ADV, may someone make use of your parts well :freaky

You mean a Unicorn.......no, wait......I guess a Unicorn is just a Farkled horse:lol3 So even mythical creatures can't resist the farkle.

I found a new 2011 at a dealership back November and gave $11,500 for it. I've also seen new 2012 Adventures for $12,999 in past few weeks.

I normally would recommend repairing your bike, the damage "appears" to be mostly comestic with some bent parts. The insurance offer is very, very generous, IMO I would take the money and buy me a new KTM and some new riding gear and enjoy.

    Well,

They have decided to max out my "accessories" to $3K as I had a ton of farkles on the bike and provided receipts, photos, and comparables. This has made my decision easier since I know have enough $$$ to replace the bike and comparable items. The estimator suggesting the frame was bent sort of put me on this track as I don't want to gamble on that and there is no way of knowing unless I buy it and take it apart. It would now be within my budget to buy a 2010 used, and have SuperPlush upgrade the suspension. $4K to buy it back is a bit much - if it was like $3K I'd do it.

For someone with the time, expertise, and know how - they will be seeing this show up at auction somewhere in CA I would guess. I have no idea what Progressive does or their process but they have been good to me so far in this process. Local claim rep who picks up the phone - what a novel concept.

My key witness today also submitted a written deposition to progressive. He did one hell of a job backing me up - so I am sure this will really help me keep my record clean.

Here is a copy of the appraisal - or at least the portion of it with the VIN. If anyone can figure out where she ends up - let me know!!!!

It's bitter sweet for me as I put many many trips on her. She never let me or my wife down. :(:

Just search my name and you'll see......

I fully intend to pick another winner here soon, when I find that just right bike. I appreciate all the responses to this thread - it's really helped in more ways than one. I'll post up any updates as they happen and for the LOVE OF GOD please assume these pedestrians WILL place themselves in front of you at any given time.

And - NEVER leave home without your protective gear - not even for a short ride in town! Going to the store can be hazardous to your health..

Wasn't it $11700 + new gear? And they've increased that higher due to accessories?

Dang, I'd sure like to get hold of the motor from that bike as I need a spare 9x0 engine and don't fancy playing the salvage yard lottery.

Anyways, good luck on the new bike! Sounds like Progressive treated you well which is nice to hear :thumb

Chrish4ku....thanks for sharing this with us. Sorry that you have to give up a family member (the bike), but don't feel as though you are abandoning her, "she" took the bullet for you as any trusty steed would want to. Odd how we motorcyclists think our bikes have a soul, like a living thing. Last April I sold my 06 450x and 2007 25th Anniversary VFR to buy my 2012 R and really felt like I was doing something wrong.

Ba Ba - His name was the Night Rider....Say it.......

I'll keep this post updated as I now SEARCH HARD for the new perfect 990. I think 2010 or newer.

Somebody will indeed pick it up at auction at a cheap price.

Picked her up today - got a good deal. 2011 / 9 miles.

All I got to do is stretch her suspension just a bit and RIDE! This ABS thing is kind of cool.

    I was thinking R height.

Not sure if the tall seat height had much to do with those tip overs....more of general laziness and trying to follow some guy whom is 6'5 and rides two up like Matt and Kelly. :lol3

Bert's R is the perfect height.

Not that I plan on doing "rubicon" type trails much but the clearance sure helped here....
