Greets. Any experience with the DAJ at 7000 - 10000 feet , (for Colorado)? I'm really lik'in what I've read so far about this "jetting" option for the KLX. Thanks in advance. Jobs.
Need some info from experienced riders on stock "R" pipes. How can I tell if my bone stock muffler is in a unmolested condition? What should I see looking into its end? The noise limit rating stamped on the muffler is 82 DBA. Is this okay for a Colorado trip? The guys I'm going with all bought new KLR's, and they said my pipe seemed kinda loud when I kept passing all of them the other day . Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer. Jobs.
R original muffler is one of the best, although black, good perform. Inside, last year I had a virgin one, here the pics. The tampon was still white. KLX inmate in german forum homemade killer http://www.dirtwerkz.com/Pages/products/exhaust/dB_Dawg.html
Thanks for the schematic Myway!!! May have to build one. Anyone sitting on a stock R spark arrestor? Jobs.
I think the original insert type spark arrestor (tampon) probably kills a few dbs because of the white wrap over the screen??? The link for the dB Dawg and optional spark arrestor screen looks good, but is not USFS approved. http://www.dirtwerkz.com/Pages/products/exhaust/dB_Dawg.html So I am considering a few options. One option is to do nothing. A second option is to buy a new pipe. Any inmate, who likes the aftermaket pipe bought for your R model? What is the best pipe that will fit? Fogo, what mod did you do to shorten your WB pipe? Any recommendations? The third option that I am going to try is to add a new spark arrestor, (shown) http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p...-Kit?ref=gmc&gclid=CPqahtTy2rgCFWJp7AodD3MApA , close to the original, and wrap it with a bit of fiberglass to dampen sound. I shaved off the sub frame (tail frame) and fabbed it to accommodate a CRF250R dual exhaust. Looks great but it's louder then stock for sure. I had a KLR swing arm modified to fit so I could comfortly fit a 150 Mitas on a 3.5x17 rim or a 150 SM tire on a 4.25x17 rim. Tires kept hitting the muffler in the stock location. The CRF duals gave me the clearance I needed plus a sweet custom look. If you're comfortable with fabrication it's a fairly easy job. For the record I also modified the CRF number plates to fit so the muffler bulge is on both sides.
I say, built one and that's it, good performance and nice sound. Ride!!!! And make your KLR friends happy.
Fogo, what mod did you do to shorten your WB pipe? Any recommendations? Jobs[/QUOTE] My 2 bikes run a rear section muffler made here in Australia called " Staintune " Very nice note with the baffle out but VERY load and deep. We dont seem to have the restrictions that you guys have over there with noise and sparks, The bikes must comply firstly when the come into the country and first get sold, then after that its yours' You can get fined by police for a load bike but this very rarely happens. Cheers Fogo..
Option 4: Move to Australia. Until then, I've decided to build a couple of inserts using the info and pics Myway posted. Have an 1-1/4" perforated tube on the way to help with the build.
I have the pro circuit unit and it is USFS spark approved but MUCH louder than stock. sent from my crappy nexus
Hey Guys, when you make a Motard bike out of a KLX650, what road bike wheels and sizes have people used, Do some poeple reuse the rear rim or is there a road bike that the rims will nearly fit straight on without to much mods? Cheers Fogo...
Hey Fogo, See these topics all supermoto together. http://www.planetklx.de/wbboard/board.php?boardid=37&sid=f0a8e20f1bd210beaed9e5ec7cbb0d43 just look at felgen = rim just asked. give me the link an i explain all kinds rims are used aftermarket and other bikes total wheels, other brake adapters etc. in first there where people on a C that took rear C rim in the front. Also discussion on what tyres - reifen in the back how wide. But the spokes could be different on rim and hub.
What do you plan on using for the cloth? I have a Suoertrapp that likes to eat fiberglass packing. I am looking for this heat resistant cloth to help quiet it down. So far, I have only found massive quantities on line and nothing locally. This one product does not have a minimum on its procing page: http://www.firesleeveandtape.com/hi...eeve-tape-rope-fabric-insulation-tadpole.html http://www.firesleeveandtape.com/AB-Thermal-catalog-S-FG-BP.pdf
Thanks for the links. Looks to me like some of this will work, and sells by the foot. I'll call Monday.
