Hi relatively new 650 R owner, I find the drive chain eating into my sub frame, not wanting t over tighten the chain - any suggestions ? Thanks Rod.
Hi Rod, Not much of experience here, but i have a couple of dirtbikes including a KLX650c . The chain eaiting up the subframe seems to me it is either a too loose chain, (excessive slack), or a worn chain having too much side play. Could blame also a front - rear sprocket missallignment and/or too big sprockets. Hope i helped a bit. Looking forward for more info about your setup and its condition. Cheers
The chain and sprockets are new, maybe 10 hours on each. I will check the rear alignment, and adjust the chain a little tighter. Thanks for the input. Regards Rod.
Hello everyone,I'm Ugljesa from Serbia and I have Kawasaki KLX 650 C1 1993. This KLX for me is perfect bike, strong engine and very good driving. sorry for my bad english
Hello Ugljesa, Your English is perfect, but my Serbian got bad What does it say on the sign in the park: "Do not walk on the grass"?
On sign says : "Monument of nature under protect, third category, under protect of state" every street bike was in the park,on the asphalt,my KLX with cross tyres must go on grass
Hello although I drive a C. I am back, putting on original front sprocket. Measurement of aftermarkelt front sporcket are mostly not the same. Before that i had a aftermarket, thought is was a JT, there i must use a ring underneath. I know people who bought a new chain, and after a few weeks they throw it away, because side clearance and hitting this tube you mentioned. People who makes a KLXSM and set out the rear sprocket, wider tire, know this problem, hitting the tire or this tube. This is the main reason.
I will have a look at those issues as well, I do have new sprockets and chain, this could be the problem as I have adjusted the chain as much as I dare to. I do not want to over tighten it and cause damage to the shaft seal on the drive sprocket. I will check the clearances Thank you Rod
Hey guys, im a little new to the forum so bare with me if i make any technical mistakes, ive got myself a workin 1993 KLX650R enduro series after fixing an electrical issue for it, the bike was my uncles old enduro bike and when he had no time to be able to ride it he handed to my dad where it began to fail from minor damage, after working on the bike and getting her goin, my dad gave it to me since he doesnt want it, now your probably going to think im insane riding this thing when you find out my age, but i really love this bike, the condition its in right now is rideable, but i want to do a full restoration and bring it back to its former glory, if anyone can provide me with websites and locations for either original or aftermarket parts to fit this beast i would be very grateful, cheers.
Hello welcome, Youpic url is not okay. either you upload it first to a image website, and the set the link here or embed it or you make attachment pic file. cheers mate, been told that fixing these bikes can be a challenge, but im up for it, and im planning on doing a repaint of the bike, if anyone can help me with stepby step info on engine paint, chassis etc that would be awesome heres the URL to a pic of me with the bike when i first got it running, looks a little worn out so bare with me: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/138/dsc05177et.jpg/
Myway has a point. I have owned and wrenched on bikes for 35 years. My current project is a 94 C model. It has been my experience that... "If it ain't broke...don't fix it". Not to say that maintenance is not critical, it is. As far as painting the engine goes?. I would never do this to a KLX. The finish that is on that motor is there to withstand abuse and no paint you can buy is that tough without being ridiculously expensive. The frame is another matter. Disassembling the bike and removing the engine is not something to be taken lightly. If I were you, I would ride it, enjoy it, and improve it as time and money allow. Cheer's
nearing the slip joint of the exhaust the rust has gotten dangerously high, it will soon puncture and will have a pressure issue, the tachometer wiring is buggered but the speedo works fine, other than that im just planning to fresh it up, get rid of rust and old paint and recoat it, also the radiator is banged up a bit
it is important to measure the valve clearance, first. when this is a little, little to tight it can mess up the head. really bad, make sure oil is always in the upper half of the glass. nowing the procedure how to check after each ride, drive, hold it right up let it idle for a while, stop, and check oil glass. I let it idle idle with a closed fuel tap, so that the bike (my C) start better the next time on choke without gas. If I know that I am not gonna use it for a week. Riding it offroad you want safety, so good working suspension. It is that one hole that can make life miserable. Front, are the levels good, fork oilchange ( can be quit a while it has changed so dirty, bushing, if you change that then also the seal.

ive looked over the top end from head to toe, valve clearance is all good, hada distinct clicking sound near the exhaust mount but it fades and goes randomly, my mechanics teachers says its just what the engine sounds like but wanted to be sure so checked valves, heads, bore, oil lines, bowl etc all were good, but i havent checked the exhaust manifold, and ive set the suspension with an experienced enduro bike rider whos ridden heavy bikes before, all i really want to do is bring its condition back up, all the busted plastic, dents and rust cause i plan to keep it for a while and dont want to run into problem after problem, want to fix all the age parts in one go, also can the R series 650's have a radiator fan mounted and powered fro the engine?
