I love everything about the Adventure suit except for the lockout closures which keep popping open and rendering all that goretex completely useless. Is this the suit for me? I didn't see anywhere whether it had those same closures or not... I'll probably end up wearing a pressure suit underneath anyway much of the time, so I'm not as worried about the protection aspect. I'm sick of getting soaked in my RP2, or having to lug around Frog Toggs as well! Is there any reason I should choose the ADV suit over this, even with the lockout problems, for a RTW?
I think the ADV is a bit overkill for a RTW ... unless it's ALL offroad You up near Mazar-i-Sharif or Balkh?
OK, that's good to know. I guess I'll just hope I can find a Badlands suit to look at when I get home, and see if that meets my needs. I'm actually southeast of there, in Bagram.
That code is to be used directly with Klim, not with a vendor. VIP.Klim.com. I also think you should probably just address these thing directly with Ned. B. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Can someone please explain what "molecular level protection" is? Because it sounds like a pseudo scientific term to me (happy to be educated).
I think it's called that because the bonds between molecules supposedly change conformation at the molecular level and absorb energy from shock at the same time locking the molecules together to disperse the impact. It's kind of like applying heat energy to ice causes it to change bonding between molecules to become water as it absorbs that energy.
It's similar to how the crumple zone on a car works. The "speed" of the impact is spread out over a longer time resulting in lower impact forces at any one time. As we all know, hitting a tree at 30 mph and coming to an instant stop hurts more than sliding down the asphalt for 200 feet. Q~
Ok the thing I can't get my head around is that surely the molecules themselves cannot change? It's the bonding process that changes. Maybe I'm just being cynical but I think it's a little misleading to call it "molecular level protection" - kind of like how the cosmetic companies use terms like "boswellox" which is their own invented term which sounds kind of sciencey to joanne average and makes her think "wow, its a medical thing so it must be good" which of course, it isn't, it's a marketing thing.
If you mean it doesn't change to a different elemental structure (H20 to lets say CH3CH2^4CH3) then you are correct. It does change it's state like water freezing aka liquid to solid or other elements that change states due to level of energy (kinetic, thermal, or electric). To use a different analog think back to the more recent batman movies where his cape could become rigid if an electric charge was applied to it. Similar concept different application of energy. "HOW IT WORKS: The functionality of the raw material originates from the synergistic effects of the polymer based dilatants. Energy is distributed throughout the synthetic elastomeric polymer and the enhanced chemistry continues to distribute energy on throughout the matrix, significantly reducing the effect of impact." http://www.d3o.com/d3o-technology/
Is any vendor offering any discount for ADVRider inmates for these new offerings from Klim? I am seriously considering the Badlands or Laditude suits. With all the free advertizing on this site for them, it would seem reasonable, but I haven't seen any.
Hi Ass, There are a bunch of us out there that offer phenomenal service around the gear and we also offer Free Shipping and Exchange with a loyalty program that kicks in over $100. Klim is pretty tough about discounting online so it's not one of those brands that can be easily wheeled and dealed on any forum. I hope you can appreciate my candor. Have a good one. Anthony
I've tried on the Badlands suit and am on the list to purchase. I can hardly wait! But it will be next season before I can wear it as the snow is coming! My BMW Street Guard will be up for sale once I get the Klim. I like the gear but the Klim fits better
Anthony, Thanks for the reply and your candid response. I actually prefer a straight answer which you provided. I called Klim and didn't really get any real answer, they defered to the dealers. I appreciate it.
Badlands Pro should be here tomorrow.... I'll post up fit, feel, function and durability throughout the winter as I plan to test it out year round. My Snowmo gear has held up perfect for the past 10yrs...
Just a heads up. On the Klim website, they are showing in limited sizes and colors, the availibility the Badlands and Laditude gear. That would seem to indicate they are becoming availible in the dealers.
Welp guess who showed up 2day...the friendly FedEx folks....I'll post up thoughts when I get the time. The XL Helmet fits true to my 60.5 cm head and my other XL helmets... with the Bell Star being the exception as it runs big and mine is a L. The 2XL Powercross gloves fit true as that is what I wear in other gloves too The 34 Tall BP pants fit over my street shorts and waist is good, much like a street pant fit just a little baggier. They don't go over boots, but once on lotsa room it looks like (as the boots are at shop so I'll post up later) I was wearing Keen size 13 hikers. The XL BP jacket fits good, plenty of room to layer up in the body area. The arms are good for me being slimmer in build. The wrist openings are perfect to fit over the gloves and cinch down well with the velcro. The neck is great (I have a 17" neck) I put on my Wool Vest with large collar and if fits good, so balaclavas will fit noo prob. Some may think the neck is a bit big but overall most jackets I consider the neck too small when you start adding a fleece collar and balaclava for cold riding and rain. It's the perfect height for most too, though I like a taller collar. I'm 6'1" and normally 180-185lbs.... bu tafter the crash (Pg 9 in the RR in my sigline) I'm at 170lbs right now so I will try to figure this into my sizing judgments... it makes it a little harder figuring the fit. JJ
Anyone want to trade an XL Adventure Jacket for an XL Badlands?? (I have an Adventure and want the venting of the Badlands...)
