I like motorcycle racing as a sport, especially road racing. I'm just not sure how to learn more beyond the small article about racing that Cycle World runs monthly. What's the equivalent to reading the local sports page for motorcycle racing? How do you learn about the different classes? How do you learn who races in them?
Search the internet. For Road Racing, especially US based Road Racing, forget Cycle World and go with Road Racing World. For off road, especially rally, this forum is about the best, just ask. These days, the information really is at your fingertips.
Well, if you go to a few races of the same venue in any motorsport, it won't take long to know who is who. As an example, if you visit Loudon for the LRRS series, you will see some great racing, but the same riders have owned that joint for some 20 years. The money races of course. Every now and then a youngster moves up to the front, but usually he falls a little short.
Yeah Start going to races big, small whatever and see whats going on. Spend the night at some road courses on a bike weekend and you may have second thoughts about becoming a fan
welcome to the best sport in the world!!!!! just go to races, ask the folks around you any questions you may have. motorcycle race fans are usually a great and welcoming bunch of folks. and also, make sure you get to a MOTOGP RACE!!!!! nothing beats seeing and hearing those bikes in person! also, Flattrack provides some awesome racing as well!!
Before cable TV and the internet, there was Cycle News. No information overload, it was what it was. I kinda miss that. And no matter how bad you were, there was your name in print in the "results" page.
I really missed Cycle News, then discovered the online version. And it's free to boot! Very well done and covers every aspect of motorcycle competition.
Along the front range in Colorado there is local roadracing. Second Creek. There used to be another up along I25 North of Denver, once called Mountain View, now called Continental Divide, not to be confused with the one that used to be south of Castle Rock. I think that was a drag strip, and maybe an oval. I liked those two. Though Second Creek scared me a little.
