I think Earth X is a better deal with the balancing circuitry built in.

I have asked this question in a couple of other threads but no response. So I was looking at the South American Yamaha site today and was ogling the XTZ-250 "Lander" and the XTZ-250 "Tenere" (same guts different looks) and realized they use the same air cooled 250cc engine as the XT-250. However it appears that these bikes have oil coolers (you can see the two black metal lines). Why is this?

I would guess that it's probably due to the Lander and and 250T being set up more as "touring" bikes and the extra capacity and oil cooling would allow for longer oil change intervals. They probably don't list any different intervals, but more oil and less temp is going to let the oil stay "fresh" longer.

They also have fuel injection if I recall correctly.

Great information here, it took me forever to get through it all. 249.4cc just gets me in under the wire. CRF250L, already got some goodies for it, and more on the way. 6" of snow here yesterday though, hopefully it will be a short winter.

Yeah but I think that may have come at the same time as the XT250 getting FI.

The Brazilian Lander has been FI for a few years at least. The Japanese market XT250s have been FI since 2006 (The US didn't even get Xt250s until 2008!). Other market's 250s didn't receive FI until 2013, and I suspect that some places still get carbed models, but I'm not positive of that.

That FX is a sweet looking bike. I look forward to seeing a dual sport model, with a couple more gears.

It sure confirms my feelings that present trail bikes are way too heavy. There's just no excuse most dual sports are 300lbs or more.

I wonder "where" they cut most of the weight?

Say's on their website they'll be building an Expedition model, that would be the one most of us would go for. This looks very interesting and I'll be keeping my eye on them for sure.

Yep. I have a feeling that the engine is super light also, at least compared to most 250s and 650s. It's only got a 4 speed in it, SOHC, etc.
