R80ST gets the GS Treatment

Yeah I'd say it is just as dramatic in actual use. I put my camera in manual mode to make sure to have an accurate comparison. Same shutter speed, same aperture, same white balance, so I'd say this is about as objective of a visual comparison as you can get with out actually being there. The best part is that it only uses 35 watts. You can see mileposts coming WAY out there. The only down side is when you pull up behind someone at a stoplight the reflection off their license plate blinds you.

I stole it from Airhead Wrangler. Couldn't fit the big one though. This one's really getting around. The $6 I payed for this is a lot better than $50 for the boards that fit in the stock tail light. I'm thinking of putting one on a modulator.

No, I'm planning on leaving the GS forks stock - maybe adding a gold valve down the road, but first I just want to make my bike rideable because the weather's getting better by the day up here.

I've never actually 'hefted' one myself. I managed to leave mine connected to the collector when I swapped my subframe out, so I've never actually felt how heavy it is. I believe it's the same muffler that went on the factory G/S PD bikes - the so-called "stainless" one. Though it says "Zeuna Stainless" on it, I'm pretty sure it's actually just the G/S muffler with THICK chrome plating cuz mine's definitely rusting a little in a few spots, that and the extra mounts for the heat shield which also looks identical to the ST heatshield. As far as internals go I'm pretty sure it's identical to the G/S muffler.

Here's the kit I got. Please note that the headlight I was using before the conversion used an H1 bulb meaning it only had one beam, no switchable highbeam. When converting to HIDs you are presented with the dilemma of how to maintain a highbeam as HID lights don't like to be switched on and off repeatedly and can take up to 10-15 seconds to reach full intensity. I just use my driving lights on my crashbars as my highbeam. There are HID kits out there with high beams in them, but from what I've read so far, most of them seem like somewhat sloppy workarounds that aren't really that practical. Then again, who needs a highbeam when your low beam is this bright? If you get them, be sure to get the "slim ballast" as it's MUCH smaller than the regular sized one.

It went to a new ADV home to the south in San Francisco, where it originally came from.

Put it on my 91 gs and it looked great , Until I installed all of the other red pieces fresh from the paint booth...But it is in far better condition than the one it replaced. The one in the back yard collecting rain water after the body shop guy blew it up

I know, I did too. There's much to be said for leaving these bikes lighter by running a 6 gallon tank. Truth be told, there really aren't many places in the world where you NEED a big tank, but the extra flexibility it can afford you was worth it to me. I wanted a bigger tank for South America to maintain the option of not filling up if the gas is iffy. It'll also be nice when riding at night in remote areas. You don't have to camp at the gas station and wait for it to open. (that happened to me in Yukon Territory) Red was nice, but the big black tank was CHEEEAAAAP. Black's faster anyway.

It works. The tach took some serious fiddling with to get it to work right and it's still not COMPLETELY straightened out, but works well enough. My only gripe is that the backlight is pretty bright - a little too bright for my liking at night. I'm going to try to find some kind of tinted film to put over so I don't have a bright white screen shining at my face when riding at night. I have yet to hook up the oil temp sensor. That'll have to wait for the next oil change.

I have progressives and order race-tec emulators. ill let you know how they feel. i've been taking this girl into some pretty gnarly shit, and she has held up just fine.
