Thumb Ladakh.. Zanskar.. and more..

Hi.. landed on this forum.. while surfing the web.. and I must admit.. I am bowled over by the plethora of information and trip logs here.. I am overwhelmed.. I took seriously to touring... an year ago.. and so far clocked over 9000 kms in the mountains.. (mainly Himalayas) this year....

This is the log on my latest and the longest ride so far(3800kms) in 14 dayz across some of the highest mountain passes in the world...

Some background about Ladakh n Zanskar..

Ladakh is a land like no other. Bounded by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, it lies athwart two other, the Ladakh range and the Zanskar range. In geological terms, this is a young land, formed only a few million years ago by the buckling and folding of the earth's crust as the Indian sub-continent pushed with irresistible force against the immovable mass of Asia. Its basic contours, uplifted by these unimaginable tectonic movements, have been modified over the millennia by the opposite process of erosion, sculpted into the form we see today by wind and water.

Part fantasy, part reality... Ladakh, is where, the forces of nature conspired to render a magical unrealistic landscape... a landscape of extremes... desert and blue waters... burning sun and freezing winds... glaciers and sand dunes... a primeval battleground of the titanic forces which gave birth to the mighty Himalayas!

Way out here you can see for miles
If there was anything to be seen
Maybe I could tell the difference between
Where I am and where I've been..

Kargil - Leh highway....

Suru Valley

Zanskar..

@Sod_buster - Thnx buddy! :)

@LKK - Thank you!!. I bet you will go on a ride someday.. gud luck!

@Rosmoe - I used a puny 13.3 Bhp single cylinder 150cc HONDA. Unfortunately our govt. imposed over 150% import duty on higher cc motorbikes.. :(

The bike had no problem is climbing those high mountain passes... (mostly in 1st and 2nd gear.. on the steep inclines..)..

Is it Taaq?

thanks for that. i suppose a bigger bike would have been not so well suited for the quest.

but what camera did you use? i don't think i counted as many hues as you wanted but the blue skies and rock textures were impressive.

could you give me a further treat...... what are chai and maggi and did you take any nerdie pics of them?
