KTM 640 Adv '05 - High Front Fender !!!

Hi All

Did try and search the Index, could not find exactly what I need !!! (Maybe I am not good at Indexes - sorry if this is a repost of an already covered topic !!)

Could anyone of you tell me what needs to be done to put the high fender on a 2005 640 ADV alla Flanny's adv !!!

What can be done about the brake line going to the second brake callipper, when one removes the low fender. (I see Flanny's has a single front disc ??? - I am a newbee !!)

Which high fender should one buy, as I doubt KTM sells a 640 ADV one (Metallic Orange)

Does the standard general fork protectors fit on the ADV or do I need a special order again.

PS - I prefer Ideas that will not rock my pocket too much, very much in line with Creeper's 2005 ADV performance tweeks !! (I know I am picky )

I THINK some guys have used a SX fender (comes in orange too!). A single disc is all you need. Measure and buy a new steel braided brake line for the left side of the wheel and lose the right caliper.

If you must keep both calipers then I think will probably need two new brake lines and I would go with a different set up at the master cylinder to make it work bitchin'. You can set it up so both lines go directly to the master cylinder so there is no "t" in the line, giving you more braking power, although, like I said before you dont need it....

PM surfphoto he has his 05 set up the way you want yours.

I have ordered the parts to adapt my 640, and I know it's not a big job. The biggest step is bleeding the brakes. If you keep both discs on the front, you need to run a second full-length brake line from the right side caliper up to the master cylinder so you can get rid of the cross-over. Then you need to come up with some fork-guards. I think the ones to use are from another KTM model, like the the 85 SX. It's not an exact fit but it's close. Also, you'll need some guides for the brake lines, KTM parts worked for me when I did this to a different bike. As for the fender, you could go with any KTM front fender, some people like the supermoto version, I prefer the full-sized MX version for it's extra radiator protection. Of course, Touratech sells a kit that has all you need, it's made for the 950 but as far as I know, it would adapt just fine. I went to my local dealer with a list of parts to get rid of the cross-over line but I plan to keep the low fender in place.

I purchased my AADV already converted, DALBY Moto here
are the Australian specialists at setting up KTM Adventure bikes, 640s and 950s.

They supply the bit's as a kit, contact them and see what you get.

I had mine converted to a signle front disk for a local rally , the easy way.
It DOESN'T work!

What we did was the obvious.We just took out the right caliper and used its screw on the left for the cable to connect.
The pump is very strong , as it is designed for operating with 2 brakes , and braking on loose surfaces has now become an act of balance and precision. Squeeze it a bit much and you loose it , don't squeeze it and you never stop!
What I suggest is using both front calipers.

These guys have a high front fender conversion for the 640.

As far as fork guards and the rest is conserned:

I used fork-guards designed for Husqvarna, the 640 Enduro guads were not even close to mounting on the forks, even if modified somehow. The holes point to comletely different directions. I do not know about the SX models' suspension.

The front fender is a 2 piece Acerbis universal (orange + black ) which was simply bolted below the "bridge" provided.

I'll post photos later.

Leipsippos,

I was riding with an 06 rider last weekend who had converted to one disc, and it DOES work! You simply have to swap out the master cylinder for a model that is used with one front disc. The folks in this thread may not have posted that bit, but look at my post above for links to other threads that certainly have that info.

BTW, he converted to one because he found 2 to be TOO POWERFUL offroad, which is probably why you were contemplating loosing one eh?

So the Husky fork guards were a straight bolt on to all three holes?........how about a part numbe?.....please.....
