New 950S finds a home

Went to pick up the bike last night. This bike is so much fun and fits me great. Petrie Motorsports is a great place to deal w/. Wayne, the owner, is very helpfull. They still have a black one and an orange one left.

Thumb Great Choice

I too recently purchased a 950S. It is an 04 model and had 7000 miles on the clock. The previous owner did the hard work and fitted Akro exhausts, Gobi Luggage, Engine bars, fork guards and a high front mudguard conversion.

I have since done about 1000 miles with it and it is going in for a service and new back tyre next week.

It is a such a great bike I have a blog dedicated to the bike I call BigBlue.

Enjoy

Very nice, BigBlue. High fender is planned for the future, I'm just waiting to see what the Super Enduro fender will look like and if it will work.

Lomax, I do like the black ones also, but they were just too low for me.

I have to get some fresh pic up here, but so far the bike has been great.
I looked into the super enduro fender and it won't work very easily. Looks like you'd have to cut the front "grill" off to clear. Petrie has one in stock and it looks sweet.

Stats:

-2,000 miles
-no oil usage
-used .2 liters of coolant in the first 700 miles, but now has stayed level.
-valves checked out just fine, no adjustment needed.

I've put sw-tech crash bars on, and the stock luggage racks.
I bought Legion's Renazco seat. Looks great, comfy. Will put it to the real test next weekend on my trip to northern WI.

As for everyone saying the "S" handle like crap. I think it's just fine. I'm used to my LC4 640, so that may have something to do w/ it.

More Pics soon.

SWmototech bars. I like them, but on the right side by the rear attachment point it bends out kinda far and my ankle rubs on it. I wish they would tuck it in closer to the engine. Otherwise the fit is great.

Just picked my up a week ago

Great site and information, I just picked up my Black 950 Adv. a week ago. I hope I can put half the miles on you have. Only have 200 miles, on her so far; but way better ride than 06 640 adv.(sold). I am a short guy and will be looking for the low gel seat. The 950 height isn't bad after riding the 640 for 6 months.

Things to note:
1) bike stalls when I come to a stop, I can't seem to set the idle(too low or too high)
2)Showed I was low on fuel, but right takn was over half full. (leveled out when opened the fill caps)
3) bike runs hot (fan running alot)

I have a few things to play with but too much fun to ride to worry about it. Just gather information from these sites and

cheers
Tim

Look for the cannisterectomy thread at the top of the page under hall of widsom threads. You want to get rid of the smog gear as it will cause stalling, esp if you tip it over on the trail. Most of us here have removed it. You can buy blanking plates from a couple sites to block off the ports. Highly recommended.

I am assuming you know how to set the idle with the small thumbwheel on the left side of the bike? My bike occasionally will stall for no reason, but not very often. I've since jetted the bike and adjusted the Idle Air mixture screws which helped out in a major way, along with a carb sync. Mine idles at 1400.

Tanks,. make sure your vent lines are routed properly and not kinked also check to make sure the fuel taps are open on both tanks so they cross level. Pretty sure its your vents.

Bike running hot is probably due to the coolant sytem not being bled properly. You need to get the front wheel 24" off the ground, run the bike with rad cap off, until it starts to get hot. Should get the air out.

And welcome

Welcome Tim,

Congrats on the the bike purchase. This is a great place to find info on just about anything that may give you grief.

I had mine stall once, when I first got it. Never did it again so far.

I had the same fuel level problem once also. I removed one of the small side panels, below the head light, and when I put it back on a pinched fuel vent line. I fixed that and all was good.

I still have all the cannister crap on. It has never given me any problems. I do check the drain plug once and a while though. I don't know if your bike is brand new or not, but check that out. It's behind the header pipe on the right side. Little fancy alum. plug Make sure the bike is COLD, so you don't burn yourself.

When/if this bike ever gets a rest I plan to remove all the cannister stuff. and make some blanking plates. For now I'm trying to ride it as much as I can before the blizzards come.

As for running hot, If you are riding slow the fan will run alot, but what do you consider hot? Mine took about a .7 Ltrs of coolant in the first 1,200 mile or so. Now it hasn't used any. Maybe they didn't blead it properly at the factory, What ever the case, it's been no problem. Just keep an eye on your overflow tank level.
