MotoKarpaty (Ukraine and Rumania)

Bikers and bikes:
Safran on a Honda Transalp
Mirek on a Yamaha TT600R
Me (Maciek) on a Yamaha TT600R

Started on 01.07.2006 from Gdansk (me and Safran) and after 777km we arrived to the Polish-Ukrainian border where we met Mirek. This evening we have been eating “pielmienie” and drinking vodka in Lvov.

The next day, after seeing Lvov we jumped on our bikes in the direction of Karpaty mountains.
The plan was to do offroad in the Gorgany and Czarnohora mountains (Ukraine), and then follow the Karpaty mountains in Rumania till the Transfogarian road and back to Poland. Time: 1 week for Ukraina and 1 week for Rumania.

In the Gorgany mountains we wanted to follow a path of the old Polish-Rumanian border. After 50m Safran's transalp and Mirek's TT were down It was quite a difficult offroad - specially for the Transalp.
Lot of riding in deep mud and rivers.

The path was going up and down. The Transalp too

After few days we have arrived to the Czernohora mountains:

and we have almost drove our bikes to the highest peek in Ukraina - Hoverla:

After one week we have arrived to Rumenia:

Funny cementary, with pictures of what was the person doing in life or how did the person die (for example a picture of a girl being hit by a train):

We took an old train and had a beautifull ride in the mountains:

This train is used to take the wood from the valley, cos there are no roads.

There are also private trains with the tops from a car (usually with german plates);

Only one puncture for me during this trip:

And 2 punctures for Transalp:

Apart a bike a biker needs sex:

and to drink :

but after....

...after you fill like you should go back riding:

Here the transalp clutch sad ENOUGH! He could run maximum like 60 km/h...

...and needed to be pushed to start in offroad; Transalp became a little depressed:

so its 2:0 for the TTRs

So from now the Transalp had tu use mainly gravel roads:

...but not the TTs

The clutch in the transalp was getting worst and worst so Safran started ride in the direction of Poland.

Myself and Mirek wanted to do one more offroad and the Transfogarian road.

Once we found a nice path which was used in some kinde of enduro rally (ktm redbull or enduromania) cos there were ktm signs all the way:

And the transfogarian road (where I fell down twice):

We met some tourist who drove from Oman and they were quite happy to see the snow:

I did not have any on-road accident aver but this time I had 2 within 15 minutes. 1 - cos of small rocks:

2nd cos of oil on a turn:

...and END of the trip:

MotoKarpaty movie soon.

Poland to Romania

Fantastic. Much tougher riding than most riders attempt. The forests and streams are beautiful. Thanks for the smaller file size of the photos. Most photos take all day to get on the screen.

Perhaps you can share a map of your trails??

Wonderful!!

The opening scene is brilliant, there is a sense of humour through the video which is great! Your videos, including the Africa epic, are as good as the LWR videos, and better, because your vidoes are "real" people living our dreams (no criticism of LWR though, I enjoyed every second of them!) Thanks a million for taking the time to take the shots, and for sharing them with us! What an inspiration....
