How much?

What would a bike like this be worth to you if you were in the market for the same?

BMW R1150 RT '03 Model, 950 miles, just serviced, Black, trunk luggage, perfect cond!

Well, it's not MPY, but has it ever seen rain? George might be interested...

That's a nice bike to be considering! I'd reckon about $16,000 as a starting point if it were me.

Example:
MSRP $16,290
Taxes $ 1059 (@6.5%)
Setup $290
Freight $290
Doc stamps, etc. $50
Total $ 17,978

The seller loses the taxes and purchase fees, and you can reasonably deduct $0.020 per mile for usage - about $200. The travel trunk cost $500, but its a bargaining chip. Jockey the numbers up or down if your state's taxes or other circumstances are different from the example.

Feel the owner out: figure if he's selling it this soon, there's a reason and he's motivated - marital disagreement, change of heart, change of financial circumstance, etc. If there's strong motivation to sell, start at $15K and meet in the middle.

You said its "Black", but the 03 colors were silver, Titan Gray, Biarritz Blue, red metallic....?

Man Mully, if I ever need to unload a bike, I hope your buying it!

Let's see....

MSRP is 16.3K?

With the special financing deals out there and the gotta be the first owner markup, I'd say no way would I pay more than 14K for it. I'd probably offer somewhere around 13K on it.

Black was a rare, but standard color for '03 (manufactured in late '02).

ImaPoser hit it on the head, komet. Sales incentives on new ones turn used values into dust the minute the papers are signed. And since most folks aren't going to pay cash for something like this, or get as low a used rate from their own institutions as BMW pushes, an actual cash buyer has quite a leg up on the rest. Especially if it's a genuine must sell thing.

For comp pricing, I'd be searching the papers and...

Thanks fellas...here is more info.

I talked to the guy on the phone and may go look at the bike. I think I could probably get it for around 12k or maybe 12.5. That number seems good. If some of you have been reading some of my recent ramblings...you know I'm interested in getting a new bike. My intention was trading in my R1200C at the dealer. Now, I see this RT advertised in the paper and it caught my interest, particularly with the black color. I am able to deal in cash so that ball is in my court.

The guy did tell me on the phone that the bike "surges a little"...this factor has always scared me and one of the reasons I've considered the CL over the RT...I am sick of hearing beemerophiles talking about surging and sure do not want a bike that may be a bucking bronco.

My dealer will take my cruiser in trade on a new bike (I know the ramifications of trading). So the plan was to trade my current bike and get a CL, GS, or RT(I've posted a thread about my initial tests of those). If I look at this RT, I will have to make sure that he can get the title (he said it's still with BMWNA now...but I'm still waiting on mine having paid it off over a month ago!) I'm not dealing with anyone that does not have a title in hand or can get the same within a reasonable time.

I had thought about keeping the R1200C too because I like it and it's been good to me but mama says one bike (we would be paying insurance on 5 vehicles if I kept it etc.) so this has been my dilema from the start, looking at a CL, RT, and GS but only able to get one....

Again, thanks guys...this wanting a new bike has almost become burdensome.

Well, clearly, I need to recalibrate my sense for these things if this bike can be bought for $12: that's a $4,000 depreciation in 1000 miles and less than a year. Maybe I better not look for a sales job, eh?

One way to handle the title situation is this: You and he contact the lienholder and agree for you to send a cashiers check to them for payoff with the understanding they will send you the released title. The seller then gives you a power of attorney to transfer the title from his name to yours. I have handled $50K truck sales this way and it works well!

Actually, the RT "felt" the best of all I examined...but I'm gonna try to get the best exploring (and bike for my 9 year old riding buddy)bike for me. I really should ride the GS again in a more extended fashion I suppose. The CL? Family likes it but there seems to be something lacking there (besides horses). I recall that "circle" tour of yours riding the south a while back and you seemed to really enjoy your ride.

I guess Freaking got the only non-surging RT manufactured in '02. Congrats! Komet, be VERY careful ...... I feel for that poor bastard who is trying sell his "surger". I was going to be in his shoes if my dealer didn't feel my pain as he did and give me the good trade for my GT.
If you want to know how bad his ride surges..... try to get a look at his ass while you go to test ride it so you can see how much it has swallowed his pants! This guy is skwirming.
Let it get real heated up on the test ride and pay close attention to the 3-4000 rpm range in gears 1-3.
(don't buy it!)
