Torn Tendon In Shoulder

Need some advice form the wise and wonderful inmates of ADV.

Has anyone ever torn a tendon in their shoulder?

If so, what treatment was required and how long did it take to heal?

Thanks guys.

I had a partial tear, broken scapula and a generally beat up rotator cuff.

Lots of painful prodding by the physio, infra red and an interesting electrical device that made my muscles quiver.... 8 weeks before I started to get a useful shoulder.

8 weeks Ben????

Damn!

Still not too sure how I did it, and my doc is just bewilldered by the whole thing.

Went to the Redback Rally 2 months ago and had to fight a side wind the whole way there and back. Shoulder became sore then and never really got better.

At the time I put it down to muscle strain from fighting the bike and age (mid 40's, not healing as fast as I used to!)

But ultrasound and x rays confirmed a lot more damage. Been banned from the bike for 2 months minimum and no playing with setting up the sidecar. Ouch!

Looks like it's the Pajero for the Dargo rally.

i also tore a rota cuff tendon and fractured scapula, the initial healing took around 12 weeks with lots of physio.
i eventually had to have surgery because of painful clicking and it would occasionaly lock up on me.total time inc initial recovery then surgery recovery was around 18 months.

Current shoulder injury

Dave, I am currently getting treatment for shoulder injury that I got wakeboarding over easter, with deep tearing that will supposedly take some time to heal. Initially I couldn't lift my arm to even level shoulder height, but with a combination accupressure treatment and being hooked up to a Linus Tri-Mix machine, movement is increasing and strength returning. Very good eastern doctor who has treated me for other decent injuries seems to have effective results and is located in Park St South Melbourne. PM me if you would like phone number, say my name and he will surely charge you double.

Thanks TG, my doc has it under control I think. I couldn't afford the double fees, the ultrasound was enough!

Hope your shoulder gets better soon! (stick to 2 wheels, these water sports are dangerous)

Thumbs down Shite outa luck Davo...

Thats no good Dave!!

Bugger drinking through a straw....better tell ya doc to put a shunt in your arm(can't use your arm now anyway) so that you can get your beer via a drip!! Much more efficient!!

Seriously, I've done a few things to my shoulder over the years(ex Baseball pitcher=PAIN).

I've had a lock of success with Accupuncture(Yes you do get over the needle thing, and it doesn't hurt). Injuries like yours re-injure themselves all the bloody time. But instead of healing properly you tear the scar tissue and it's not as strong as the real deal. Actually the consistancey of potato they told me. The needles trick the body into thinking that you have an injury in the area and starts the healing shit happening, pretty cool.

Anyway that my 2 bobs worth. Its up to you, but like I said it worked really well for me.

Good luck buddy...chin up, and get it mended....cause your fugged without a good shoulder!!

- Dave, al lI can say is make sure you have all the information on board - I had mine done august 06 and now the rotator cuff has heeled ok the tendons are causing problems - I cant get to 99 without sheding a tear - heres a link to some visuals on teh operation - just select what you are going to have and then take a deep breath -

I guess the worse part of mine was that he also ground away some Arthritis that had formed on the bones - Kinda looks like a raw lamb bone when you break it. I had the Calcific Tendonitis - Excision Of Calcium & Acromioplasty and slap repair ...

While I was being preped for surgery the Nurse told me shoulder ops were even worse than giving birth - mine took 2 hours - a hip replacement takes about 90 minutes these days ... enjoy the video's

i did a complete tear of my rotator cuff about 3 years ago.. took around 9 months to get good strenght back.. I have since done partial tears twice since.

Combination of Gym, Basketball, Volleyball, kick boxing all added up. :(

Its backwards mobility is now reduced and I have to baby it wherever I can.. im not even 30 yet and generally heal pretty quick/well.

All I can say is follow the physio's advice to the letter, and be very careful.

good luck!!

Racketeer (Ian( thanks for the info, I had acupuncture done years ago for migraines and it worked a treat. I definatlely subscribe to alternative medicines. Thanks again.

SBSP, thanks for the vids, very disturbing!

Bigm, thanks for your best wishes.

The thing that really shits me is that all the stupid stuff I did when I was young, BMX, motocross, enduros, skiing (snow) has finally come back to bite me on the arse. Crap!, I'm only 43!
