Big Bear Bash - Part 2, The Plan of Attack

For anyone that wants to ride up to Big Bear by dirt on Friday the 16th we'll be meeting 434 I Street in San Bernardino http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=16&iwloc=addr at or after 8am.

This is a friend's shop "Tim Robel Concepts" and is located at the exit ramp for Mill St on the 215 South about a block away from Chaparral.

We'll have a truck available to put some gear in and expect to roll out no later than 9am (earlier if everyone is ready)

I've made the reservations and for anyone interested now is the time to make your plans to attend.
The dates are 16-18 May 2008 the rangers told me that would be the best time before the summer when it's crowded and before fire season starts. We'll be staying at the Lake Loop at Serrano Campground near Fawnskin at Big Bear Lake. I'll be going a day early, on Thursday, to get things set and to contact the rangers for the latest reports on trail closures.
I'm keeping it basic here, you can find all of the details about the event on my homepage I'll be making changes as the trip develops so check in on it every once in awhile.
As of today from Stromtrooper.com, Advrider.com, and my2wheels.com there's about 30 people interested so this should be fun.
There was snow and ice in spots today, when the weather gets nicer I'll be looking for volunteers to scout out a few trails with me. I'll keep everyone posted on that too.

Here's the current roster of confirmed and unconfirmed riders I'll update this as the trip develops.

Sounds like another good time to ride and meet more FFs. I'll put this down on my calendar.

Thanks K60ST for taking the lead.

OK, I'm in, spot 124. No need for the RV loop. I'll be there Friday morning. I have stayed in spots 114, 117, 130, 131, and in the RV loop too. The loop you picked has the best Lake view IMO. Pot Luck sounds great. The closer we get to May, we'll figure out who is bringing what.

Count me in for a scout trip.

John

Thanks, I need to take that map off of there. It was supposed to show the trails going up to Big Bear from Apple Valley, then Clarks grade coming down. And that was in the preplanning stages when it we were talking about a one day half on half off road trip.

I have web and hard copies of the OHV trails and for the most part any plans will depend pretty much on what's open or closed at the time.

Ugh!!!

DAMN!!!! My wife is due May 23rd, so I won't be able to make it. She'd never forgive me if I was away offroading and camping while our second young'n was born.

Maybe next time.......

Regards,

John

Scouting Trip 4/21

Anyone up for a mostly dirt ride on April 21st? I know, it's a Monday sorry about that. That's when I can get with the photographer to give him some locations for action shots for the trip in May

Here's the proposed routes at the very most, we may cut it short or reroute at any point we decide best, mostly depending on mud.

The Blue route is the trip we should be making in May it goes: Cleghorn, Los Flores, Deep Creek Powerline Road, Bowen Ranch, Round Mountain, 3N59 to 3N14 (Coxey Truck trail), 3N17 (white mountain) to 3N16 Holcomb Valley Road. Then depending on mud, snow, and ice in the area: come back around and down Coxey trail into Lucerne then up to Big Bear, or in through Holcomb Valley and out either Van Dusen Canyon or taking 3N16 to the end near Balwin Lake

Laugh In!

I heard of this trip from this past weekend's Death Valley nOOB ride...I'm IN. I'll be riding in Friday evening and staying through Sunday. Will possibly run Jacoby Canyon from top to bottom, then hit up Pioneer Town via Cactus Flats. I also want to take the trail down Clarke's Grade down to Seven Oaks for some beer/grub.

Is it May yet?

I havent been near cleghorn in about 3 weeks, but when I was up there the back side had about 3' of snow and was heavily rutted. The snow pretty much started at the peak of cleghorn and continued almost all the way down to silverwood lake. Althoug Im pretty sure that most of the snow is gone by now, so just a little heads up it may be very muddy and deeply rutted as I seriously doubt the adopt-a-trail guys have been out there doing repairs yet.
