Genuine Scooters Rattler 110 advice.
Big changes are happening in my motorcycle world. I am selling my KLX 650 and going to probably buy a 2008 KTM 530EXC. I still need an around town, bum around bike.
I have gone ga ga over this scooter. Holy crap a 110cc two stroke? OMG I really want one. Illini Scooters in Champaign has one in stock. I checked it out. Some non Japanesse bikes/quads are total and complete crap. This machine seemed to be well built. However, I am mostly clueless to the specifics of a scooter. Can anyone give me feedback on this scoot? I have never owned a scooter before. Does it hold up? Any major problems/concerns? How does it respond to hop ups such as a pipe and jetting changes? How long will the rings last? Can I get parts easily? Thanks for any and all information you can give me? Damn this is going to be a fun riding season!! 990 Adventure 530EXC and a rockin two stroke scooter! |

I've been looking at the rattler 110 since the release announcement. My local dealer has one and has said it is hard to keep the front end down when launching. I would assume it won't take long for hop up parts to be available. As far as reliability, Genuine is a GREAT company. The Stelllas, and Buddys have been bullet proof. Please post your thoughts and pics once you pick it up. I wish this scoot had been out before I got my Zuma and heavily modified it.

I have a buddy who sells them in San Antonio and said that the scooter has a ton of potential but as delivered is really lacking. The stock carb is just about the same size as what my stock rally 50 carb was! The exhaust is also way restricted. These 2 or three things are very easy to fix though, and after putting a new carb and a pipe and doing all the variator stuff etc, the thing will probably haul massive ass.(for a scooter anyway) He is also saying that a big bore kit is in the very near future. I may end up with one of those things before too long, just for the potential that it has. A 185+cc, 2 stroke, kick a sport bikes ass (at least up to 30mph) rowdy, hooligan, bar hoping machine! Something along the lines of the old Italjet Dragster. There is a guy in New York with the Dragster that claims over 200 stoplight to stoplight drag racing wins against everything from porsche's to Japanese liter bikes!

What is a variator? Is this the scooter term for the CVT? I do understand how a CVT works in a snowmobile or a quad. Is it the same on a scooter?
Went and checked it out again today. Got some prices and found out availability of the black and silver model. I will certainly post info after I buy it. |

Prima just brought out a pipe and silencer, I imagine there will be intake kits coming and maybe a little larger carb, then possibly a big-bore kit. I'm currently waiting on jetting, variator spring, and roller weight info from Scooter Works before I buy. I've heard the pipe and a main jet bump produce roll on wheelies and add about 5 mph on top. The stock air box design is very weak IMO so there's potential for more power. Mine isn't really broken in, but I've seen an indicated 62 mph, I haven't checked it with the gps yet, but rumor has it that actual is around 56-57-58 mph. Acceleration from 5-45 mph is impressive, not problem pulling out in traffic. Build quality is decent, quality fastners, decent welds, I haven't noticed any attention to detail during assembly issues either. The only issue I found was the steering stop welded to the steering head was off, which was easily cured with a die grinder. The controls are nice and the seat is decent, my only control gripe is the bars could use about 1.5" more rise to clear my thighs in tight turns. My other street bike is a Ducati S2R 1000 with GP suspension modified Showa forks and a Penske rear shock, its been lightened about 15 lbs and I've degreed and advanced the cams, PCIII, Akrapovic can, Sparks header and custom mapped on a Super Flow dyno.........................theres a good chance I'll get a ticket on the Rattler before the Duc. Buy one, they are a kick in the ass to ride. PS - The under-seat storage compartment holds a shortcase of 12 oz. cans and about 3/4 of a bag of ice .............or a helmet.

Checked one out today. I was impressed. Would love to hop it up - my
guess it would be hard to keep the front wheel down.

I'm looking at this scoot too. (Normally I'm a KTM LC4 Sumo rider)
I noticed at the dealer that the body work, seat, and rear rack of the "Black Cat" will fit the the Rattler. I'd like to have a higher visibility. My only concern is the rear wheel. It's a 10" log-sized beast. I'd prefer 12" wheels all around. I wonder if any of their other models have a 12" wheel that would fit that hub? I haven't even bought one yet, and I'm already thinking all new bodywork, pipe, CVT, carb, intake mods, bore kit. $9K scooter anyone? |
