Considering Schuberth Helmet
Guys....Ive made the mistake lots make...I suppose...Bought a ZR1.....nice looking lid , cheap price....but seems very noisy at highway speeds even with earplugs....
Been looking at the Schuberth S1 helmets.... Ive seen the sizing may run a bit small, but wondering if this is the helmet for higher speed highway riding...lower noise ? good venting ?? Any owners have thoughts to share ? What Ive read so far is all good.... Curious what others may think.... http://www.extremesupply.com/schuber...hS1helmet.html This is the model Im looking at and seems to be a great price at this place |

No idea what they are like but I'm ordering one of the new ones next week. Over here (in Europe) the new line of Schuberths are out - the S1 Pro's.
Not sure of the differences between the S1 and the S1 Pro but I do know the S1 Pro replaces the older S1 and hence the S1 is at a great price. Comes in some nice designs too. I currently use the Schuberth C2 and I'm hoping the sizing is the similar. http://www.schuberth.com/index.php?id=20&L=1 |

There is no one importing Schuberth helmets into the US at this time. This may change, but I doubt before spring 2009. They displayed at the Delaler Expo in Indy this Feb, but they are still without US sales/distribution. The weak $/euro will make most people think twice about bringing them in until things calm down.

I have an S1. Very nice helmet. However, there is very limited support in the states. I have to order parts from overseas. They are expensive and delivery is slow.
It is not that much better than my Shoei, and I am not sure that I would get another. One can purchase four or five "other" helmets for the price of the Schuberth. Also, the helmet is very warm. Great in the winter. Not so hot in the summer. It is a lot of money to spend on a helmet that I'll be wearing for half the year. Regards, Peter Doege |

Try contacting Sierra BMW in Reno ...
I remember stopping by this store last fall and they had a fair selection of Schuberths left. I tried on a few helmets and they were noticeably quieter while trying them in the store. Not sure if that would transfer to noise reduction on the road though ... it would all depend upon the quietness around the air vents, shield, etc.
They mentioned that Schuberth was redoing (read that as "downsizing") their whole US Distribution gig, but that their store would remain as one. Here's their website: http://www.sierrabmw.com/ Phone is 775/355-0655. Good luck. It seems like a great helmet, but a lot of money - esp. with the way our dollar is crashing as Bush & Co. veer our country into a recession/depression.

Thanks for the input....The place I found the S1s on sale is $359 shipped...Which compared to what Ive seen for the higher end Shoei and Arai helmets is cheap....
There is no way I would pay $650 for the helmet, or any other for that matter....but at $359 shipped....seems like something worth consideration. The "hot" in the summer worries me a bit....Maybe I need to buy better earplugs and use my ZR1 until I hit the lotto ? lol... I can usually talk myself out of major purchases if I sit on it long enough....so maybe thats what Im doing...subconsciously of course... |

The S1 is a quite quiet helmet. The integrated sunvisor is very nice.
It gets hot here in NC and as long as I'm moving with the vents open, the S1 is no worse than other full face helmets I've used. My next helmet will probably be a flip-up for use in the heat of the summer. Especially in town. I think the S1 is a good deal at that price.
