Honda XR650L Larger Gas TANK

Hello Group,

From searching the web I've found three larger gas tanks that fit the XR650L.

IMS
Acrebis
Clark

Any advise on which brand is better would be helpful.

Ride safe

hi gobear and welcome. i'm running the clarke 4.7 on my L. no problems. i fabricated some struts out of aluminium for better stabilization instead of the wire cross-piece thingy that came with the clarke. the range is pretty substantial now.

good luck

I have the IMS. Fits OK with some minor rubbing with the cylinder head bolts. Probably has 5000 off-road miles on it now.

Having said that, I have always been impressed with the Acrebis tanks I have seen and owned.

Running an IMS 4 gal tank. No leaks or problems other than discoloration from the fuel over the years. It was white but is kinda tan now. it has been on the bike for over 10 years. I did have to replace the gas cap because the rubber gasket/vent ripped this year and I could not find just the gasket. I think that $12 in over a decade is pretty good. If I replace it I will go back with an IMS. I just cheap and don't want to spend the $$$.

Removed the stocker, and just bolted up the IMS 4 gallon.Used OEM petcock, and frame foam.I would like to put on thicker brakets then the ones that came with the tank, but haven't had any problem with the IMS brackets after,3,000 miles.

I have a Clarke 4.7 gallon on my 650L. No problems yet. Looks good and it was an easy installation.

I have the Clarke tank. The only issue with it is that fuel on the right side does not flow to the petcock at low levels. While this is not normally a big issue as you can put the bike on its side to move the gas - it was a problem for me once when loaded for touring (panniers, camping gear). The bike was heavy and I needed help to drop the bike without damage.

Hi Albee,

That what i was planing to avoid, a friend of mine have the same problem, its just a pain in ass.

But with the Acerbis you dont have the issue as they come with a petcock in each side of the tank.

But apparently Acerbis discontinued fabrication of those tanks for '99 xr600's.

Can tell you about IMS as i've never saw one in fact.
