Two Questions about the F800GS

I like the look and idea of thes bikes. Right now I have a DL1000 and a DR650. I ask way less of eihter of these bikes than they are capable of. The DL I use strictly as a road bike and most of that time it is for comuting or two-up riding on the highway. The DR is for exploring dirt roads that turn into trails. It stopps just shy of single track. I would never dream of taking the DL the places that I take the DR.

Based on that short blurb, I am prepared to ask my first question: Do those of you who own the F800GS think that one of those could replace BOTH of my bikes?

Secondly: I can;t find a reliable figure on capacity, octain requerment or range on a tank of gas. Can you guys tell me what you have found?

First question: yes, it'll replace both of those bikes. It may not be quite as nimble as the DR650 and it may not cruise the Interstate quite as steadily as the DL1000, but life is full of tradeoffs.

Second question: the tanks holds 4.2 U.S. gals, though people who have run it dry have said that they've squeezed in a scosh more. Requires premium gas, but can be remapped for regular (by the dealer) at the expense of a couple of mpgs and hp.

The confusion about octane ratings may have something to do with the difference in the way it's calculated here in the U.S. and Europe.

Here's a recent thread about tank range:
