CB175 or CB350 / 360?
Hey all,
Anybody have any suggestions as to which bike would be best for running errands in town? I'd want to be able to maintain about 50mph without revving to the moon, keeping in mind I'm at 6000 feet altitude. I've got bigger bikes, but lately I've been having the most fun on my TW200... light, nimble, "easy". It does what I want, but I'd like something older and more stylish. I recently purchased a pretty nice 1973 CB175, but it's not on the road yet (cleaning carbs, etc), so I don't really know how it performs. I have the opportunity to purchase an equally nice 1973 CB360, but if the 175 will run the speeds I want, there is no need to spend the extra money. Thanks for your input! John |

I got a CB 350 for my daughter to learn to ride.
I had so much fun on it, when a deal came around for a CB 360 I jumped on it. (Hell, it was basically free) I can't imagine the 175 being able to even rotate the tires. If the 360 is cheap, don't even hesitate. You can always sell it for the same or more later.

My buddy had a 175 he would ride 20 miles to work each day in the summer, didn't go like his ninja, but I seem to think it did 60 something.

The 175 will be fine if you're under 250# and don't need to cruise much faster than 50. They make fine grocery getters.

Go with the 360, its the same size as a 350 but quicker.
I love my 360, I zip around the interstate quite a bit on it. It will cruise at 60 no problem, hell I've hit 100 down a hill on it but I'm also only like 125 lbs. I wouldn't even bother with the 175, I sat on one the other day and felt like I was on a little toy bike honestly (and I'm a small guy) |

You can gear them a bit, and if I were to find the right one tomorrow I would have it, and I would change out to get more low end speed and less top end. Heck around here its almost a shame to ride my airhead like I do, lots of 4-5 mile jaunts at 30 mph and it doesn't get a chance to clean up and air out. So I'm always trickle charging the sucker. 175 with a kickstart and zoom. Not saying you shouldn't also get a 360, but heck, nothing wrong with the 175. Its like a moped for motorcyclists. |
