Bangkok Day trips?

Anyone know of some good half day to full day trips to ride outside Bangkok? My DR showed up yesterday and I NEED to get out and about.

EDIT: Searched this site & Google Earth and found a route to Khao Yai. Anyone wanna ride out there next Sunday?

Thanks
Canoli

Really? 30 + looks and no one wants to ride this Sunday?

Or is this ride a really bad idea?

Hey Canoli!

Khao Yai is one of the best day trips from Bangkok- always a good time!

Here's a trip report I posted on ThaiVisa a while back-

Awesome ride guys!

Made the trip today. Got really lost but finaly found 305 & 33. Nice roads in the park and some good fire roads outside the park as well. In the dry season some of the branch roads off the main dirt paths could be fun, but today they were a bit sloppy.

A bunch of Kwackerzaki guys organized a brilliant ride this past weekend-

Bangkok to Khao Yai National Park and on to Chet Sao Noi National Park-

Great day for a ride!

Met up at 0700 at Kawasaki Rama 9- Trent on his ZX10R

At the entrance to Khao Yai National Park-

Lots of beautiful bikes out and about today-

In our group it was mostly ER6n's, three new 2010 Ninja 650R's, a few Ninjette 250R's, a pair of Ninja ZX10R's and one D-Tracker.

Had a great time running in my new Ninja 650R-

It was a year ago this month that Kawasaki began selling Ninja 250R's, D-Trackers and KLX 250's in Thailand, followed by the ER6n in January 2009 and now the Ninja 650R. They've sold several thousand big bikes in the past year and are helping to motorcycling a more popular sport by supplying quality bikes at great prices. A ride like this would never have happened a year ago.

More pics to come- Happy Trails!

Tony

Sunday's ride was not sponsored by Kawasaki, but at the last minute the sales manager, Khun Chan decided to ditch the riding course he was supposed to co-teach and come along on the ride instead. Lucky guy got to take the Kawasaki Test Drive ZX10R- Wow!

Good to have him along as he always keeps things well organized. Here he is giving everyone a quick speech about the hazards in Khao Yai National Park, which include copious amounts of elephant dung, monkeys, some patches of damp and forest litter, a fair number of speed bumps, etc. He also divided the group up into fast and slow so that we weren't all tearing through the park in one massive pack.

Big group of Ducati riders- really nice guys-

Man it was a HOT day! Felt great to escape the heat up in the cool mountain air of Khao Yai National Park-

Here's Trent explaining his theory of, "If you can't ride fast, be loud" (If you've ever heard his ZX10R you'll know exactly what I mean)

Da man!

Great group of guys! Always a blast to ride with them.

After Khao Yai we proceeded to another National Park I'd never heard of-

Place was packed with weekend crowds and it felt great to cool off in the river- Here's Khun 20 showing off his manly physique

Awesome picnic-style lunch and then it was time to head back to Bangkok to catch the MotoGP races-

Happy Trails!

wow had no idea that there were that many big bikes in the area. Looks like you guys had a blast. I'm actually heading back out that way tomorrow mid morning for a quick up and back. Hopefully I won't get as lost this time. My gps maps are still not here but hay... Got me a new map. Wish me luck.

Greetings from a female ADV Rider in Anchorage, Alaska!

I am traveling to Nepal soon to go trekking in the Himalayas and we'll be spending two days in Bangkok on our return. Just for fun I checked the Asia Regional Forum to see what goes on in your neck of the woods. WOW - it looks like you guys have fun! (Especially at your picnic lunches. ) Seeing your photos gave me a strong desire to do some riding while I'm over there, but, I won't have a bike and the two friends I'm traveling with are bicyclists - not motorcycle riders. Are motorcycles expensive to rent in Bangkok? I know the traffic over there is REALLY crazy so I probably wouldn't have big enough balls to try riding by myself, plus no helmet or gear...

Anyway, I just thought I'd say hello and thanks for sharing your photos! We'll be in Bangkok Oct 23-25 and I guess there's a big holiday during that time. Fun! We have no idea what we'll do while we're there, but getting a massage is a high priority as we'll be worn out from our challenging trek.

Happy trails!

Hey - nice photo and GREAT bike (I have one just like it)! This photo developed a stronger itch to go riding overseas somewhere. My bike said she's ready to go touring and would love to see some Asian temples. I actually dream of doing some of the wild & crazy bike trips this guy below has done in the Himalayas as I prefer traveling off the beaten path. Maybe some day!

A couple friends and I will be in Bangkok towards the end of October after completing a nearly-month-long trek in the Himalayas. Do you have any suggestions of interesting "touristy" things to do? I would love to ride with you, but I won't have a bike.

Happy trails!
