moab mid feb?
we're headed out from NC monday morning to head to california for this...
http://www.kingofthehammers.com/ dragging our rock crawlers and our tagged ktm's. Figured while we are out west we should check out Moab? Whats the weather gonna be like in general? Too cold to enjoy it? Someplace else we should check out? We are hoping to ride some slickrock, see some of the scenery, and generally check out Moab on bikes for a day or 2, and pull the crawlers out a couple of days too. We are currently planning to leave out from cali sunday, so we would like to ride on monday, tuesday. Anybody want to show us around? Trail suggestions?Planned to camp in our "RV" and do a little beer sampling in the evenings. suggestions? Thanks, dave |

Depending on weather, I'd say do it! Lots to do on bikes and jeeps in Moab to make it worthwhile. Start out on Fins and Things (bikes/jeeps) to warm up then hit Hells Revenge in the same area. Moab Rim is a good bike/jeep trail. Pritchet is a little harder and requires advanced skills. Poison Spider/Golden Spike are a couple others I would check out.
I've always had good stays at Canyonlands Campground and they are within walking distance to several restaurants (i.e. Moab Brewery). A few of us are also going to KOH and riding mx bikes inbetween events.

It has been a while since I have been to Moab, but I used to lots, we used to head down from Park City whenever the weather looked good, and usually that was early march, but Feb can be nice. You need to watch the weather and also the sky. Be prepared for flash floods,. I woke one morning to a rather angry creek crossing that was being fed by snow/rain.
Usually worth it, sometime you get snow on the tops of some rides but nothing too bad.... |

Hers a couple different webcams to check out.
oxblue.com/pro/open/utahdot/us191coloradoriverbridge www.redcliffslodge.com/webcam/ If you plan to ride Slickrock you'll get a map of all the trails/rds in that area (sand flats rec area) when you pay the fee at the gate. The Moab tourist center or whatever they call it is right in the middle of town, they are usually pretty helpful there. If you want some burly stuff that is easy to find, Pritchett canyon out Kane Creek rd. (KCR starts at Mcdonalds)go till just before the rd turn s to dirt and you'll see it on your left, you go through a gate fee station. Its also very popular with the rockcrawlers, big uphill ledges if you go from the bottom. And although THE WEST would love to claim Moab and Utah as their own, technically its in the Rockies
