Hya Noob- 1st motocamper here

Planning on a 1 night stand on the carrizo plain soon. trying to go up the 33 tothe 58. Hit the Plain and a ton of photos of the pretty flowers and crap. then work my way south. hit the 166. then the awesomeness that is Tupesquet road. foxen, cat canyon, then on to Cold Creeks tavern for a beer and tritip and listen to some blues.
If there is anything I need to know about Carrizo plain, gas, fire pits, anything. please let me know.

thanks.

There is gas in Maricopa and Taft on the south side of the monument. I'm not sure where the closest gas is to the north side. I rode through one of the campgrounds when I was there a couple weeks ago, and it looked full. I suggest claiming a site early.

Elkhorn road was great just a couple weeks ago.

yeah , google says it will take me about 4 hrs to get there on the route that I planned. So I hope to get there around 10- 10:30am. I hope that is early enough to still find a camp ground on a Saturday morning.

Just camped at Selby this weekend. Very busy due to the wildflower bloom, but there is always space available to set up your tent. If you want a table then there are only 12 ? or so of those. No water available so bring plenty.

It is also just fine to camp in the foothills. If you don't want neighbors that is the way to go. You're just supposed to stay away from waterways...? Pack in and pack out all your trash!

Elkhorn Rd after fueling in Maricopa, via Elkhorn Grade Rd. is a great ride northbound. Cross over to the campground on Simmler Rd. Watch for VERY sticky mud in the low points of crossing over the Plains. It will jam up the wheels of the bike!

you need decent range once you get out there. its about 40 to 50 miles across, so its a good idea to have about 200 mile range.

you can have a fire out there but Im not sure if you still need a permit (which you can get online)

there are only two campsites - Selby and the other one I cant remember the name. They are both pretty good and they both have bathrooms.

Just enjoy yourself - I adore the carrizo!
