Add me to the cracked fuel tank list

I didn't even notice it until I took my 8gs in for new tires. Yes, I live in the brutal desert 10% humidity if your lucky it's only 100 today heat. Tank is on order. Sad part is that a fellow service customer was in for the 2nd time on his 1200GSA and it's failure to start. Towed in twice. They replaced the fuel pump once and were going to replace it again. He has 700 miles on the bike. Ouch!

Ouch.... I`m 300 miles east of you, and have not cracked mine....yet. As you noted with the fellow 12gsa..... You might wan`t to use chevron techron with every 3 fill up..... That seems to fix the corroding fuel pumps, as they are damaged by the ethanol in today`s gas....

I think the cracked fuel tank cover is inevitable for all bikes. It is a design flaw with the plastics so everyone go check yours if it hasn't been replaced yet!

New style. You could clearly see the difference in radius.

Cracked Fuel Tank

On the 3td tank on wife's 2009 F650/800 Twin due to cracking. Bike has a total of 1,500 easy miles. Use only Chevron gas, no off road use.

First one was really, really bad and replaced under warranty.

Second one was just in the initial phases but replaced under warranty.

The trird one is now on the bike, for less than 2 months and is holding up - so far.

I have a 2011 F800GS as really don't look forward to this issue popping up.

Hope BMW has the fix by now.

F650GS Fuel tank appears to be cracking

Has anyone had this experience? I bought this bike new, have had it for 9 months and 6000 miles and I noticed the fuel tank appears to be cracking along the top edge. The bike has never been down or ran into. The tank doesn't have a scratch on it. It is just cracking. Thx Stacy

I saw this in this forum before and it appears indeed that your tank is cracking. I'd go back to your dealer and let it repear under warrenty.

Its pretty common just search any forum with f800s or f650s on it and you'll find threads about it.

I keep inspecting mine for cracking (2011 f650gs) but so far so good (knock on wood)

I must be the worse forum searcher ever. I tried before asking, but found nothing. I will try again. Thx Stacy
