Wisconsin Dual Sport Ride - Sept '05
for future reference...
When fall '05 rolls around we gotta get a group going for this... http://madisonmotorcycleclub.org/dualsport.htm September 25-26 2004: Big Woods 200 Northwoods hospitality and great riding in the Nicolet National Forest Location: Wabeno, WI. Southeast of Crandon in Forest County. Abou 90 miles northwest of Green Bay. 200 Mile -- 2 Day Dual Sport ride in the heart of the Nicolet National Forest. Saturday’s loop will cover about 150 miles, Sunday’s will be about 100. Mix of woods/ATV trails/Jeep track/USFS roads, and a few paved roads. Optional “Hero Sections” are single-track enduro trail loops. Gas is available every 60-70 miles at local gas stations. Non-riding family/friends can get a 4-meal ticket for $30, which includes the steak dinner Saturday night. Much of the trail is out in the “boonies”, so bring your GPS and cell phone. Don’t forget a camera, and although it seldom rains for more than 90 percent of the ride, bring rain gear. If you come up early, ask about self-guided route sheets for Friday. Start: Fairgrounds in downtown Wabeno Registration: NOTE: PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY!!! NO Day-of event signups!!!! Contact John Newton via email or (920)484-3097 or print a Big Woods 2003 Application page (Adobe Acrobat PDF) . See the TALK page to ask questions via our email discussion group. Registration fee includes: Great Scenery, Awards, Camaraderie (still a bargain!,) Door Prizes, Bonfire. Breakfast Saturday, Trail Lunch Saturday, Steak Fry Saturday Night, Breakfast Sunday, Free Camping (Thursday-Monday). Good old Midwestern hospitality. The food alone is worth it. Steak Fry = 1" ribeyes on the grill with baked potato and all the fixings, Sunday breakfast is an old-fashioned pancake breakfast at a local church. Pre-Registration for both days of riding: AMA members $90; non-AMA members $90!!!; Non-rider Meal Pass $30 (all meals) Free T-Shirt. (wooh! Who doesn't love free t-shirts???) been there/done that!
I've been to this ride, 02 & 03. This year it was the same weekend as Chains Fall get together, so I passed on Wis.
you camp at the fairground, they open a little outdoor bar, nice chili feed on the trail Sat. and a steak fry on Sat. night. The Local Lions Club ( I think) support the event and make a few buck off it. It cost about 90 bucks for the entry but it is worth it IMO. Good trails with plenty of hero sections... |

Consider the Stoney Lonesome AMA DS event the same weekend in beautiful Southern Indiana. I had a great time this year but also considered the Madison Ride (Madison is a GREAT town !!)

90 bucks ain't bad for the whole thing.
funkydrum, got a link to the Stoney Lonesome AMA DS ride? I always tend to go north. I need to change my ways and try south more often.... |

DS'in
I have a tendency to north as well even though Indiana is only 50-60 east of me. The north woods ride is actually in Wabeno, Wi which about 100 mile northwest of Green Bay.

AMA 2005 DS Schedule I dig Wisconsin and thought hard about going to Madison. Given that Stoney Lonesome is 1 hr from home sealed the deal. Madison has not posted their '05 date yet but I am hoping they don't end up on the same weekend (wishfull thinking ??) as going to both would rock.
