No title in CT
I just picked up a 84 Honda VT500 Ascot with no title. Anybody deal with CT DMV? I have used a title service in the past but they are up to $350. I know you can out up a bond but I'm not sure how that works.
I bought it from a guy who got it from a shop. Last titled owner is deceased. I hate to part it on EBAY it only has 3K on it.

Did you call DMV? Better yet, go down there with the information that you DO have and see what the next step is. They'll steer you in the right direction. Sounds like you need a "title search". You can do whatever that "Title Service" can do yourself. It's just filing paperwork.

I think you can get a bond through your insurance company. CallMeBuzz is the resident expert in that area, maybe he will chime in...

I would go with calling DMV first as well.
Your proabably going to need the PO's executor to sign off on it Transfer of Ownership of a Connecticut Vehicle from a Deceased Person If the vehicle is titled in the State of Connecticut, the Executor or Administrator of the estate must assign the Certificate of Title to the purchaser. If the vehicle is registered in Connecticut but does not require a Certificate of Title, a Supplemental Assignment of Ownership (form Q-1) completed by the Administrator or Executor of the estate to the purchaser will be required as well as a copy of the most recent registration certificate. A certified copy of the probate document naming the Administrator or Executor of the estate will be required at the time the vehicle is being registered. Following is a list of acceptable probate court documents for this purpose:
In those cases where the estate of the decedent falls within certain monetary limits, the court may authorize the transfer of the decedent’s vehicle by issuing a Transfer of Personal Property without Probate Proceedings (form PC-264 or PC-264S). In addition to the above, please see registration requirements to complete ownership transfer of the vehicle. Which is kind of a good think because if it went through probate court you should be able to get name and address from the court http://civilinquiry.jud.ct.gov/PartySearch.aspx

Thanks for all the advice, good info.
I guess I have to treat as a barn find since I have no idea who the owner was and the bike was left at some shop for years.

I think a bill off sale will do since the bike is over 25 years old therefore CT does not require a title anymore. Make sure you have the official "CT Supplimental assignment of ownership and/or bill of sale" this is the green form Q-1 that Connecticut uses which equals a assignment of ownwership.
take it to the DMV and act ignorant |
