One Way Breather Valve?

I'm sure other inquisitive inmates have taken theirs apart just to see how it works. I noticed some oil in my air box so I pulled my valve apart to see if it was working properly. I unscrewed the two halves and the spring & ball jumped right out . Does the spring push the ball down or does it push the ball up?

If it pushes it down, the ball appears to seal against air going towards the crankcase but allows air to go towards the air box. I would think this would create a vacuum in the crankcase and it wouldn't restrict oil vapors from heading into the air box. That option doesn't sound good.

The upper half of the valve has some notches around the exit hole so if the spring pushes the ball up, the ball doesn't fully seal either direction. This would allow the crankcase to breathe both directions and again it would allow oil into the air box.

What thinks the wisdom of the OC?

the PCV valve should flow free towards the air box but restricted towards the crankcase

I did the same modification, if you dump the bike with it running it pucks oil into the paper filter. doing this mod works great. only drawback is you smell the engine oil vapors when your sitting still but just a wiff.

Thanks guys . I knew there were other inquisitive mechanics out there who enjoy taking things apart to see how they work. The problem does sometimes occur that we don't exactly know which way they go back together .
