This skid plate differs from many on the market because it is a"full coverage" plate & it is very light weight. Full coverage means that it extends up on each side to protect the clutch cover, the rotor cover ,the water pump and all the other "bumps" you would prefer to not be knocked off when rolling around in the rocks. It is made of composite & bead stiffened to provide light weight protection at 1.5 lbs. That is hard to do with aluminum & still provide protection. The fibers of the composite absorb the energy & will not allow a crack to propagate. The result is that you are safe and won't be stranded in the desert leaking oil.
