A hard choice
I have the option of getting an 05 R1150gs Adv. Or the 1200gs. Which one should I get? I am leaning toward the ADV due to the extra options you get for the $$

You need to ride each one to answer that question. Hard to due in Anchorge. Last fall I let GUSGUS ride an R1150GS then an R1200GS over Hatcher Pass, he ending up buying my R1150GS ADV, but he is a pretty big guy. Then I let AKJohn take an F650GS, R1150GS, and R1200GS for a ride and he bought a new R1200GS. He is also an R1150RT owner and smaller than Gus!! I cannot offer that possibility to you as the bikes won't be insured for several more weeks. Alot depends on your size, experience, and intended use. Can't go wrong with either one. The 1200GS IS faster I am 6', 200+ and near my limit to get the ADV off the sidestand when the tank is full and the ground is sloped.

I liked riding the 1150 and the 1200
However, as Kieth mentioned I bought a 1200. I have put 700 miles on it and will be dropping it off for 600 miles service this Wednesday.
So far so good...light (lighter anyway), decent wind protection and plenty of get up and go. I parked the GS until I have my ervice done and put a couple hundred miles on my RT this weekend. Even though I like my GS and appreciate its functionality, my RT is sooooooo comfortable on the road. At the risk of overstating...What an absolutely wonderful bike. :-) And Keith...thanks again for renting me some time on your bikes last year. It allowed me to make an informed purchased. jb |
