Sugar Cane to Cotton Fields
A workmate & myself went for a ride this pass week.
Left on Easter Saturday & returned the following Friday. This report will be more photos than commentary (...I'm a lazy bastard & can't be bothered writing Will be adding video as it comes to hand (editing, uploading, lazyness, etc ) plus more photos once I get them off Stewart. Stewart & Pip (his hairy daughter ) are riding a GS1150 & I'm on my 800XC.![]() I met up with Stew at Moss Vale in the southern highlands of NSW. From there we headed to Goulburn than west north west to Crookwell, Bigga, Wyangala Dam, Woodstock & Bathurst. We made our first nights camp on the Bathurst side of the Bridle track. Sunset ![]() ![]() Moon rise ![]() ![]() Sunrise ![]() ...and away we go... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Once we reached Hill End we headed for Mudgee, Gulgong, Merriwa & the back way to Scone. Merriwa Scone road ![]() Made our second nights campsite at Gundy, east of Scone ![]() In the morning we took the back roads through the Hunter Valley north to Nundle & on to Tamworth. ![]() From Tamworth we headed north to Barraba then north east to Bundarra & on to Glen Innes. About 30km out of Glen Innes we made camp on the Old Grafton road. ( ... notice how Stew & Pip dress the same. ) ![]() ![]() Next morning we were headed for Grafton ![]() Memorial to the fallen of WW1 ![]() ![]() ![]() Dalmorton ![]() ![]() ![]() This shot reminded me of the WW1 memorial, Poms & French against the Germans ![]() By the time we got to Grafton the Beemers boots were looking a bit tied ![]() New boots ![]() The tyre change used up a bit of the day so we headed south to camp at the Nymboida canoe centre ![]() ![]() In the morning we headed back to Grafton & followed the Clarence river to Lawrence... ![]() ...where we crossed over the river on the ferry... ( sugar cane in the back ground ) ![]() ![]() ![]() We then followed Lawrence road to Maclean & up the Pacific Hwy to Woodburn. From Woodburn it was onto Lismore & up to Nimbin Nimbin rocks ![]() We left Nimbin & headed west for Kyogle, then south to Casino & west again to Mallanganee where we made camp up at the lookout ( bantam roosters were running around wild ) ![]() ![]() ![]() Mt Warning ( Wollumbin ) in the distance ![]() ![]() From Mallanganee it was west to Tenterfield & onto the Bruxner Hwy which follows the Dumaresq River, the border between NSW & Qld ( cotton fields in the back ground ) ![]() We followed the Bruxner Hwy to just outside of Bonshaw then headed south on the Bonshaw Inverell road to... you guessed it, Inverell. From Inverell to Bingara, Barraba, Manilla, where I took a photo of this DNEPR "comrades" ![]() It was getting late in the day so we made a run for Bendemeer across the back country to get a cabin for the last night, Stew had stayed there before & his hairy daughter "Pip" was welcomed. ( it's hard traveling with a dog & finding accommodation ) This isn't the cabin, just handy parking for the night beside the cabin. ![]() Next morning it was a straight run home down the New England Hwy ![]() ![]() Tamworth, Murrurundi ( Stew & I parted ways here, He wanted to watch the sheepdog trails being held there & I was on a mission to get home ) Scone & Singleton. From Singleton it was onto the Putty road & home ![]() ![]() We covered around 3000km in seven days.

Even the farmers we met on this trip had a smile on their dial. EVERY creek & river we crossed had clean running water. Quote:
Yeah, that's him. He is a good bloke with a great outlook on life. Some of his rest stops are questionable though? ![]() He just parks on the side of the road & sits in the long, dry grass taking in the views. He only just missed running over a BIG brown snake the day before

I first traveled the bridle track with my Dad when I was about eight in an XP Ford station wagon. This trip we rode it on the Easter weekend. It was as busy as Pitt street, people walking along the track everywhere. (got video if you want me to post it) Love riding out that way, reminds me of camping trips with my Dad, gold panning at Hill End & Sofala.
