Madison, Lake Express, MCCCT, Detroit, Niagra Falls, Canada, UP, Home

Here's the trip I'm planning for near the end of this summer.

I would like some input on good roads to hit and what to avoid. Also, information as to what museums I should see in Detroit relating to industrial stuff / motor stuff would be awesome. I am not familiar with the route at all so any input would be appreciated. Oh, and is the MCCCT possible on a Wee Strom? I'll probably try it anyway regardless, but I'm trying to keep the bike dumps in the order of 1000 or less.

Also, if someone wants to do all or part of it with me that would be awesome! Dates TBD.

I would highly suggest that you do NOT try and ride the MCCCT on a Wee Strom....much of it is very soft sand and in the northern sections pretty darn hilly as well.

Check out the central tracks section....Cannonshot has a ton of excellent big bike routes for a lot of the stuff you'll be covering.

Don't forget you'll need a valid passport for the Cananda section.

Definitely look into the big bike routes vs. the MCCT. Other than that just stick to the shoreline as much as possible.

M-22 through the Leelanau Pennisula, and M-119 from Petoskey to Mackinaw is a must do. I'd probably skip the thumb of Michigan.

The Henry Ford Museum is the best for industrial/auto stuff in Detroit. I'd just recommend just spending your time there, lots of stuff to see. They run the Ford Rouge Truck Factory tours from there as well.

The trip from Detroit to Niagara Falls is flat/boring except for going along the coast of Lake Erie if you have the time.

You also might consider going up to Tobermory and taking the Chi-Cheemaun ferry to Manitoulin Island vs. driving around the east side of the Georgian Bay in Ontario. (Unless you're set on a stop in Wasauga Beach. Similar to Ft. Meyers Beach in Feb...)
