Snakeears rides...

It's ANZAC day here, a holiday to commemorate our fallen in the wars Australia and New Zealand have been involved in.. so a last minute day trip was organised to the east of Melbourne in the worst weather we have ridden in.

Foggy and pissing down with rain

but great conditions for some interesting photos

The delights of Phasmid track

very slippy

tell me again why we do this?

Found this little lookout, bloody freezing up here

4 layers and body armor I feel like the Michelin Man

Bruce's KLX with a 300cc kit and a Pro Taper pipe on its first run, he loved it, heaps more punch, said he can leave it in one gear for longer instead of changing up and down all the time

Then the weather really set in

bit nicer as we dropped down the hill

The sun came out for a minute

After this shot my camera stopped working due to the cold

got back a sodden mess but a great ride, there is something special about the bush when the weather closes in.

Magical composition! But I think I've already told you that before. Do you have any photography training?

Cheers mate, I will take any compliment, I am a Graphic Designer by trade but I'm slowly having a career change into photography

I'll just quote myself from the photo's that are page one. Next time I go on some epic trip I'll invite you to photographically record it. Mind you I bet you'd make even going down the shops to get the milk and bread look flash

You are the master!

Snakeears goes to the shops

Cracking day today and I have to go to the shops for something, I have taken jtb's advice and had a go a taking some pickies of stuff that's about 5 mins from home, a huge journey of 33kms
So hardcore

My street it only just got paved last week , now its a deathtrap of ballbearing like stones

The bottom of the road

Turn left and i'm in Wonga Park

I'm lucky I get to look at this everyday, before kids we lived in town, we had a nicer house but we gave it up for this. So glad we did.

This is a little detour to the Heritage Golf Course

Looking towards Mt Dandenong

My local shop is in Warrandyte, this is the Yarra river, looks nice but I wouldnt swim in it. Most houses are on septic tank and the outflows go into the river when it rains a lot.

The bridge over the Yarra at Warrandyte, the road heads north to the hills, I bet heaps of Melbourne ADV riders have crossed this

Pound Bend Park just up the road

My Local Supermarket

3ks of twistys on the way home

the local store at the bottom of my road. All three food groups available, Beer, Wine & Spirits

We should catch up for a ride one day - I'm in Warrandyte South
What tyres have you got on your WR?

I used to swim in the river a lot when I was younger

Maybe... don't ride it on the road much anymore. Might go for a spin up to kinglake this Sunday for an easy ride while my ribs are healing.

Gday snakeears, I'm around the corner from you too. I've recently bought a Dr650 that I'm setting up to be more offroad friendly, I'd be up for a ride some time.

Castlemaine explore V2.0

I had to take a coffee table up to my folks place in Castlemaine so I loaded the WR as well for a bit of an explore

The trail into Moonlight flat a big gold digging area in the 1800's, at one time more than 15,000 crammed into this little area

When I was 16 a mate had an old HR Holden bush basher, we took down this track in the wet and broke the steering column, ended up doing a 360 surprisingly we never hit a fence

Peek a Boo

I remember as a kid there was a bee keeper here, this is all that left

Pennyweight Flat a childrens cemetery

Someone still cares

This is a sad place, strangely silent, over 200 children buried here in mostly unmarked graves,

The trees started growing after the burials, circle of life I suppose

Quite a sobering place

I lived here for over 20 years and that is only the 3rd time I have been to Pennyweight Flat

Heading north through the Pinies

Dusty, dry as a chip

Some single track fun

The old water wheel

I dont know why, this guy collects double decker buses

Expedition Pass so called because Burke & Wills passed through here

Mt Alexander about 1100m

Camped up here a few times

Twistys yeah!

I took a little track I have never been down and ended up a the top of the Granite quarry

Thousands of these blocks just discarded

This is the Oak forest at the base of the mountain

I had shitloads of fun in here

Harcourt, this is a big apple growing area

Adams lane, it follows the railway line for 10kms or so back into Castlemaine

Back to the start
