Dedone trail reduce mods1100/ 1150gs

My welder buddy and I have recently done a Dedone style trail mod by shortening the telelever A-frame and lengthening the lower triple clamp or ball joint mount 3/4" Via Twintwin's suggestion, using a frame and triple clamps from ebay we have built a couple simple jigs, it wouldn't be hard to do a couple more if anyones interested.I don't know how it works as I'm probably 8 wks away from getting a chair.Thanks to Didier and Claude Stanley for there help.DB

Decided on a price to do more

Discussed what we would need to get to do this mod with welder buddy, if anyone wanted to supply an A frame and ball joint amount it would run about 395.00 and shipping.DB

Dedome trail reduction A-Frame Mod

Welder buddy and I are just finishing a second A frame shortening lower triple clamp extending mod for another inmate.We had to build a couple new jigs as we cut up our originals that are now part of skid loader mounted log splitter.
It goes like this shorten A- frame .75"




Lengthen triple clamp (lower ball joint mount .75"


We used a r1100s clamp to donate the ball joint mount( cheap on fleabay)

current A frame


This is the stuff we started with it had been out in the elements for awhile powder coat on a frame in bad shape lots of corrosion on triple tree.






Done needs a trip to the powder coater, thanks twintwin.DB

Howdy All,

From what I understand and please correct me if I am wrong, THIS steering mod does NOT cause the front end to drop. The steering mod that is on my rig has caused the front end to drop at least 2.5-3 inches, it steers great but it now dives when going into corners at speed especially when I have a passenger in the hack. Had this mod been available when I had my R1150 GS, rig built I would have opted to go this way.

The fork angle and fork remain in the same place, what actually happens is the head angle (non existent steer tube ) the line between the upper and lower ball joint is made steeper.
Check my thread, pictures and a good diagram in French, http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=826829

We can fix you up with one allot cheaper than what you have cost, Claude drove it and thought it worked well and it doesn't need a damper.DB

Howdy davebig,

With the money I have tied up in this rig now, I am very reluctant to spend more on it, like I said if this had been available at the time of the build I would have had this done.

You must have Jaays lower tree.Thats the same on mine..And I had the shock also lowered.It did ok but it would be nice to have it lifted a hair..Nice setupy the way.. A hellof alot cheaper..

Howdy Melrone,

Yes, I have Jay's lower tree on my rig. Had I known the front of the rig would drop as much as it did, I think I would have tried the rig without the steering mod first and then have it done if it steered to heavy. As it is now I really like the way the rig handles I just don't care for how low it sits in front. I am thinking real strong about getting a two inch longer shock to mount up front.

Hi Mr Cob.
I had the same trouble when i made my own trail reducer for the gsa with the standard forks .
I found that you could put a 15mm spacer on top of the stock shock before you fitted it to the bike as there was room to fit the spacer and still have room for the top nut to fit ,it lifted the front of my bike around 25mm to 30mm .
Every bit of extra height helps

I also think the 2004 front gsa front shock is around 25mm longer with a stronger spring than the gs had .
Sorry i am real sure on that one .
It was a while ago

But after saying all of that I did end up getting a longer wilbers shock with a stronger spring .
