What is a steel bag? Are you talking about an adventure aluminum case? There's stories on this forum about side cases coming off so it does happen.

Really? I thought it was the Varios with that problem.

...and I got the adventure bags for my non Adventure GS. One more reason to bust out the worry beads.

It does happen , two buddies of mine lost a side case and the other his top case. Both BMW OEM cases. In both cases the latch securing the case to the rack opened?

I decided to secure mine with a spring pin, drilled a hole between the bracket of the rack and the bracket of the side case. Removable in two seconds and if the latch opens the case won't move.

my mom once drove in to my parked bike with her car, popped the left alu case right off...

however it did not seem to have broken the lock, so or i forgot to lock it (i dont think so but still) or it popped of without damage...

Happened to me on my 2004 Adventure with BMW Adventure bags. Came to a stop at a stop sign, heard something behind me, looked over my shoulder to see my right pannier sliding up to the stop sign right behind me. Put a thick layer of tape on the upper bar that the bag slides under. I tightened it up enough to where the bag no longer wants to come off. I check the bags everyday to make sure they are still tight though.

I lost a Givi V35 off my Versys once. Hit a pot hole so mean it bent both my front and rear rims. Everyone who saw the aftermath was amazed I kept it up.

I lost a side case on my GSA once, but it was user error. Forgot to lock it, and under braking at about 35 MPH, I hear something sliding down the road next to me. HELLO Mr. Sidecase! It slide about 30ft. on the asphalt, but unless you look closely, you can't tell which one took a dive.

There was another of those bags found near Denver. And another one lost near Detroit, last week alone.
I have heard of them being lost and found anwhere, every other week or so.
