Gettin' Dirty with the Wans: 8400 miles - UTBDR, KLIM rally, Canada, WABDR, OBDR +
It’s that time again - our 15th wedding anniversary and more testing of the marriage vows with some 2up dirt.
![]() BigWan and I survived the Summer of Stupid, and now we wanted more. 53 days on the road 8400+ miles 8 states, plus Canada 4.5 sets of knobbies 3 safety cones abandoned along the trail along with a couple of flats, some get-offs, and maybe a crash or 2... I suck at maps, so until I get one together, here’s a laundry list of some of the stuff we did. It should help you decide if you want to waste time reading this thing or not... Nevada to Torrey, UT mostly offroad Capitol Reef/Cathedral Valley Black Dragon Wash/Eagle Canyon/Cat Canyon Skyline Drive (utah) The entire Utah Backcountry Discovery Route (including Lockhart Basin/Hurrah Pass and a stab at the Porcupine Rim trail) Yellowstone National Park The KLIM Adventure Summit (including Idaho single track, Jimmy Lewis, the slow challenge, and a whole lot of ADV inmates) Idaho (including the Magruder Corridor and the Lolo Motorway) British Columbia backroads (including some KVR/Trans Canada Trail and 2 days of Mad Radek’s Canadian Lunacy Tour) The Washington Backcountry Discovery Route most of The Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route (including an awesome snow-less ride up Crane Mountain) finishing up with a small taste of the Pacific Crest Quest (Gold Lake and Sierra Buttes) here’s a little sample of what to expect... ![]() I took over 6000 photos, plus we have hours of video to pull from. Whew. This is going to be a long one... After almost 8 weeks on the trail, it’s a little tough to re-assimilate. Living in the forest has turned us into savages. It’s hard enough to get used to all the people and noise, but having to use a hairbrush (no more, “my helmet will fix that”), wear clean clothing, and pay attention to grooming really sucks. I'll do my best to sit in front of this stupid box and write out the report... But what I really want to do is get back outside. ![]() |

![]() Yeah, our old gear was literally coming apart at the seams so it was time for some new stuff. So far so good - we've been testing the hell out of it, too. Yay, 2up! Stick around - it would be nice if someone learned from our mistakes ![]() Quote:
Hell yeah it's cheating! Those crocheted ones take like 5 hrs, maybe more - the new ones are much faster. Pretty soon the cone fairy will have to start looking for a chinese sweatshop... (humph. matt just said, "you ARE a chinese sweatshop" )Cap'n Backflip? I'm not touching that with a 10 ft pole... ![]() Hi Sam! hi wachs! hi everyone! OK, just a quick breakfast and I'll be back with Day 2... |
