Sofia,Bulgaria to Heidelberg,Germany
It is getting a little cold. I need to ride from Sofia to Heidelberg this week. There are some forecasts for light snow on the route from Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, but most days partly sunny to rain, with flurries.
Any thoughts on best route to avoid high passes and worst conditions. I need to be in Germany by 4 November. Not looking for scenic routes, just safest.

If I was you, I'd go via Belgrade, Budapest, Vienna, Linz and Nurnberg.
BTW, what are you doing in Sofia?

I'll second that route. From Belgrade on, you'll have the only small mountains southwest of Vienna (Wienerwald around Alland), and northwest of Passau (Bayerischer Wald) and between Nuremberg and Schwäbisch Hall. Temperatures are supposed to rise from Wednesday on to around 10C during the day here in Vienna, so it will be miserable, but doable.

Thanks, that looks like a good route to me. I was passing through Sofia on my return from Georgia, via Turkey. And yes, the riding yesterday was miserable with rain and temps from 44F down to 35F and colder for today. I am in Zagreb tonight defrosting.

Sounds like we were doing a similar trip. I was in Turkey last week. I will be in Sofia tomorrow, but I am flying out of Sofia Airport.

Thanks guys, I made it from Zagreb, Croatia to Linz, Austria after waiting one day in Zagreb for it to warm up over 30F. The ride to Linz was great, Linz is up there pretty far North so gets cold in mountains, but roads were clear, although snow on the side of the road.Thank God for tunnels. Some fog in morning. From Linz to Heidelberg today looks ok with temps getting up into high F30's and clear skies.
Good luck to all traveling this late in the year, and don't forget the heated jacket liner and gloves.
