Electrical problem
I'm looking to hear from anyone with the ( exact ) same problem I have. I have an 05 950 adventure with about 15,000 on the clock. The bike starts just like it should and it idles just like it should, you can blip the throttle and it will rev up just like it should but when you are letting out the clutch and giving it gas it will backfire and shutdown before you can get half way thru first gear. I've read a bunch of posts about bikes shutting down once a month or once in a while or when you go over a bump but nothing to match my issues exactly.
Give what you got if yours did what mine does. Thanks |

I had similar problem n the 990. It could be the side stand switch. If it cuts out as you engage the clutch fully.
On the 990, i think 950 is the same there is a micro switch that stop the engine firing in gear with clutch engaged. Try it on the centre stand, engine running put it in gear then engage clutch as you would when you pull away and you may find that no matter where the throttle it cuts out at the same clutch position each time. That may indicate a faulty side stand switch as the system thinks the stand is still down. I always thought it was done through the neutral light but it appear not on these. |

Do you have trouble to start teh bike sometime???
I had a similar problem that the bike would shutdown during normal operation and it turned out the the contact at the start relay was corroded and needed to be replaced together with the starter relay at the lower right hand side at the engine. Hope you find the gremlins, could be a PIA to find them on the bike... ![]() /Zappa

I believe letting the clutch gives a signal to ECU
and also being in gear changes something in the ignition advance?

order of possibility
1. side stand switch failing. 2. ignition pulser plug to harness dirty (its on the same side as the side stand switch plug. 3. main solenoid fuse termination failing. 4. ignition key switch contacts dirty edit: oh and loose battery cable terminals, either end.... Probably others too, but if the side stand switch is still in place, i'd disable it and go from there.
