2013 F800GS OEM aux lights

For 2013 BMW offers their own LED aux lights for the F800GS. The kit is called a 'retrofit' since it installed by the dealer or end user. The kit is around $800 just for parts, so it is expensive, and consists of the lights, brackets, wiring harness and a replacement switch yoke. There are multiple parts numbers in the kit priced separately, so I expect you could just purchase the switch yoke, for example.

I just had mine installed yesterday, so I don't know how much difference the lights make in the dark, but I like where they are mounted and the fact that they nicely integrate into the bike, including an indicator by the speedo show that the lights are on.

I couldn't figure out how to get a good picture of the mounting bracket without turning the bike upside down, but hopefully you can tell from the pictures how the lights mount on the brackets.

The lights and installation look great! I am a fan of the BMW factory fit & finish. They are a bit pricey, but if you like them...then they are worth it!

I agree, it looks great! Any chance you have the part numbers? In particular I am looking for the bracket to mount some Denali's in that location.

I've been wondering about that little indicator on the speedo. How are they controlled? Are they on from the switch or do they dim or shut off between low and high beems?

They are on or off by the switch - if on they stay on whether low or high beam.

Charlie, are those lights a single intensity? If they are, then I'm glad (in spite of uncertainty of how I'll mount them) I went with the Denali D2D lights.

I want two things from my lights: To be more visible to others during the daytime, and I'm sure the D2D's on low intensity will do the trick, and; 2) To be able to see better/further at night and again, with high intensity they should serve the purpose.

I'm going to try the wide lens on the left side and the spot on the right, but if on low intensity I feel the spot bothers on-coming traffic or cars right in front of me, I'll probably compromise by using the wide lens on both.

The lights are single intensity. I was looking for more of a fog light than a driving light, so I think they'll do what I want, but I can understand wanting a dual intensity as well. There is enough traffic around here that I have never gotten used to driving or riding with my brights on at all.

Hmmmm... After you give us some feedback on how they do at night I might consider these over the Clearwater lights.

Excellent thread, thanks Charlie. I'm in Australia and am considering purchasing these brackets from the US, then mounting the Denali D2D's. Has anyone successfully tried this yet?

Since the BMW lights and bracket are so new, it's unlikely that others have ordered the brackets only and installed other lights (yet). Charlie is the first we've heard to have gotten the whole kit.

What year is your bike, assuming it's an F800GS. I too have Denali D2D's and the optional mounting bracket that Twisted Throttle sells. On their website they show it with a prior-to-2013 model bike and the turn signals are located much lower than they are on the 2013. I'm going to install that way anyway, as it wouldn't prohibit me from changing the mount later. I'm not happy though that the lights would be so close to the turn signals.

A machine shop I visited suggested it would be a really simple matter to create a bracket that attaches to the top of the fork tubes, but thinking about it later I decided not to go that route. First of all I didn't like the idea of the lights turning with the forks (which may not actually be a bad thing) but at extreme angles the lights would likely bump into the fairings. So they'd have to be mounted FORWARD of the forks, and that I certainly don't like.

It really looks like the BMW bracket would be the best mounting option, other than for price of course. Also as long as the bracket doesn't interfere with anything else you may have installed. (In my case it's extremely unlikely the bracket will work as I used the space where the original horn was to install a Stebel Nautilus Compact air horn and I'm covering one of the bolts the bracket would use. And I'm NOT giving up my horn!)

Here is what my local dealer and I came up with as a solution to mount the Denali D2D's to my 2013 F800 GS. I was struggling with a location to mount them until I saw this thread. (thanks jengel451 for the link to a part number!)

I didn't like the mount from TT because of the location next to the headlights and in front of the turn signals. Not a big fan of having them on the forks, had tried another location and was about to put them on the outside of the fender when Charlie came along...

This set-up consists of the BMW bracket that Charlie refers to, the hinge mount that comes in the box with the Denali's and Twisted Throttles M6 Hinge mount (ordered separately). They are then placed together in an "H" pattern with a few extra washers to make it all fit snugly. So far it is working really well for me: rock solid with no bouncing lights at night and very easy to fine tune the alignment of the lights for aiming. Eventually I might just drill through the factory mount and remove one of the brackets to tidy it up, but I am going to ride this way for the time being.

Denali D2D lights from TT: $360
OEM Bracket from BMW: $135
TT M6 Hinge mount: $5
Labor and shop materials: $95
Total = $595

Still expensive, but it sounds like it is less than BMW's option and I have a high and low beam. Needless to say, I am a big believer in seeing and being seen.
