Question R12GS seat questions

I'll start by saying I did do a search on this in both this forum and the flea market. There is a ton of info and opinions on the subject of the OEM R12GS seats, that much I figured out. My question has to do with how to go from a low seat to a standard with least amount of hassle.

Looking at buying a used 2012 that has under 1000 miles on it - looks pristine. The seller has a low seat on it - says he bought it that way right off the showroom floor, and at first couldn't say for sure which seat it had on it. Looking at pix, and then talking to him about it, we're both pretty sure it's a low, which I don't want.

So the main questions I have is, is there an easy way for me to get it swapped out to a standard stocker? Would the dealer he bought it from do it, do you think? Or do people just swap them all the time here (I looked for those kinds of deals in Flea market and didn't see any)? Or?

1. Make sure the BIKE isn't a LOW OEM bike...unless you want one. Just sayin'

2. Swapping seats? Take off the LOW...put on the STANDARD. Done.
No dealer involvement needed.

BTW...I changed my STANDARD GS seat for a STANDARD GSA seat...first ride yesterday...GSA seat is MUCH MORE comfortable than the GS seat.
GSA raises the ride height about 1" IIRC. More gel? in the rider seat.

You should be able to use the GSA seat, as well, unless "height challenged".

Thanks. Bike has ESA, so that means it isn't the LOW bike.

Understand about the interchangeability of all the different seats. Just wondering whether it's something that should figure into my negotiating final sale price of the bike with the seller. If the answer is: "they get swapped all the time because there is always someone looking for one or the other", well then great. OTOH, if it's more a case of, "good luck - no one wants those - you're looking at $300 for the seat you want" - then that's a different story.

Yes. If you can manage the reach to the ground at stop lights, a higher seat relaxes your knee angle so it will feel more comfortable.

Your best option is to post an ad offering to trade your low for a standard rear, you may get lucky. Next is to just buy a normal (or Adventure) seat from someone here or on the MOA classifieds which is what I did. Found a basically new set F&R for $200. There is a market for low seats so you'll be able to sell it. For instance there are riders who want an extra one in order to send off to be redone by Mayer, etc.
I'd say at worst it'll cost you maybe $100 to change seats and you should factor this in.

I'm pretty sure there is no "low rear" seat. Only GS or GSA, with the GSA having less padding and therefore lower. The Front GSA seat has More padding, so it's higher (both about 1/2" or so).
Other than that, they all sell for about the same, up to $150 or less depending on condition ($200 for the pair)

Seats are a preference thing. If I was the seller, I'm not going to knock off $$ just because you may not want the low seat. Just like I'm not going to knock off $$ because you don't like the tires or crash bars. No dealer I know of will swap out a used low seat for a regular one unless you just bought the bike there and not sure if you want the low or regular height seat. You can try to haggle with the seller, but you could probably find someone here that will swap you even for the seat.
