Calif Salmon River and Hwy 96 Closed - Fire.

Four fires apparently started along the roads.
There may be an arsonist.

Nasty stuff.

Update... 8-13-2013

Salmon River - Closed. 2 fires, 20+ thousand acres.
Another new fire just NE of Willow Creek too.
At any rate, lotsa smoke over the entire NW Calif area.

Now for the good news... Hwy 96 is open.

Just what I need a fire to loosen up more rocks that will then roll onto the road.

I like that Salmon River road, its steep terrain, would be really hard to fight a fire along it. I wonder if its burning toward Cecilville or?

I was on my way back from Brookings today and thought about heading home that way. Instead I took 299 to Titlow Road, then FS1. I found the painted Hyampom and arrow painted on the road like you described for me a while back. Thanks for that, no way to tell thats the road otherwise. Nice road going down to Hyampom but since it is almost all downhill I think the next time I will run it the other direction. That way I can kick up a little roost once in a while. Sure appreciate your knowledge of the Northstate highways and byways Twillight Zone.

Yup. Pelletrau is much more fun 'uphill'.

Sometime take 'Sims' mtn road from Hyampom to Ammon Ridge.
(Hyampom to to FS1 or 299) 30 miles of dirt...
and more fun in the uphill direction too.
