I fitted a dual digital thermometer under the dash. One temperature is registered in the unit itself. The second temperature probe is on a remote wire that I have at the nose of the fairing behind the grille.
On cool days it is about 2 degrees C warmer behind the fairing. On mild days it is around 5 degrees C warmer behind the fairing. The oil cooler most certainly contributes to this difference.

I forgot to tell you about the accuracy of the dual thermometer.
Before I fitted the unit, I kept it in a drawer and the thermometers always showed the same temperature when the drawer was opened.
Once fitted to the bike, after sitting all night in the garage, the thermometers indicate the same temperature to within 0.2 degrees. I guess this is caused by the residual heat from the engine or the differences in the airflows around the temperature probes.
The unit cost (AUS)$30.00 - around (US)$15.00.

I bought it at Tandy electronics. Dick Smith Electronics also have a similar model for around the same price - about $30 (AUS).
The BMW steering cap is a secret.

I'd like one of those caps!

BMW kindly hid the beautiful roundel form the person actually riding the bike! You can't see a roundel anywhere from the seat except for the little one on the warning sticker above the gas cap.

I know you can buy the BMW roundel that replaces the black plug that there now but I just purchased a metal BMW logo the right size at my dealership and stuck it on top of the black plug. It looks great....the little bit of black that shows around the perimeter looks like part of the roundel. BMW really missed the target there.....that area looks like it was made for the roundel.

And why is it that we have cheapy looking roundels on our front bodywork My husband's K12RS has a real nice quality roundel on his front bodywork AND he has one in the center of the dash. Hhhmm? I feel slighted!

I did a little research on this and the roundel for the RT topcase fits in that recess, but is about 2mm smaller in diam. If that doesn't bother you, then you're good to go for about $15USD each.

thermometer clock combo. 12bux at walmart.

bmw logo stem cover...probably a stick on metal badge (tank badge?) should be less than 20 even from a stealership.

I will measure the cap and badge over the weekend. I may see what it costs to have them made and machined with a recess for a badge.
It is illegal to sell the BMW logo but a cap with a round recess machined into it would be okay so buyers could fit their own badge.

Does the fork bridge cover for the R1100RT fit the R1150RT... something about a slight variance in well size?

I don't know whether there is a difference in the hole size or depth. I don't see why there would be a change between the models.
