TO to Kelowna...and back hopefully!

So I take off to Kelowna last Wed, a couple of days later than planned, but you know what they say about the best laid plans...
The first day sees way too much rain...but I get to Wawa.

Could use some sun....

The next day gets me to Dryden...(what's that smell?)...more rain and cold (10 degrees) when I leave Wawa....dries out a bit near Thunder Bay....

But fear not...the skies open up in Thunder Bay.....I could still use some sun.

I do however hear some clunking sounds from the chain...guess it needs an adjustment...so I do the deed next to the subway shop in Thunder Bay...watching all the teenage expecting mothers smoking in the parking lot...good for them!

The next day, riding out of Ontario, in the rain, for a change...I see the chain is stil not quite rite...so I pull into the Husky just past Winnipeg for a hot beef sandwich, (try to get one hot meal a day on the road) before another round of chain adjustment. I'm thinking I really don't want to do it in the rain, when I see this across the street from the Husky...

Excellent! Surely they will let me do the chain under cover, after all it's the brotherhood of motorcyclists etc. When I go ask, the manager woman says sorry, our insurance won't cover you. Oh well, so back to the Husky to find a little cover by the restaraunt to do the chain...

Something's not quite right though, the chain is getting stiff and I guess the lube I was using was nfg....as I ride on...the sky just opens up, biblical style...probably the second worst rain I have ever ridden in...with winds blowing me across the lane...well at least my 4 ways were on!

By the time I reach Brandon, I find a Princess Auto and get some chain lube and the guy gives me a couple of cotter pins as mine is about toasted.

But is looks like the sun is coming out....

I make it to Moosimin SK, and grab a room in a dive of a motel...

The next day is cold, very cold...but by the time I reach Regina, it warms up, by the time I hit Alberta, it is way too hot...(high 30's), and there is a gas shortage, some stations are out of gas...go figure.

I make it to Sparwood BC...just in time for this....

but the bike is under cover.....

so it's all good.

The next day, I decide to take the 3A north out of Creston...as suggested by Kahoon and it was inf**kincredible...then back down to get to Kelowna...nicest day's ride of the trip. After all, it's always more fun if you get the bike on a boat...

I get to Kelowna around 10 pm...almost hit a deer...luckily it went the other way when it darted...saw a few more by the side of the road, but they stayed off....spooked me for the next couple of hours or so...but I finally make it...

I take a day and do squat..change the oil, eat 3 meals...the usual stuff.
Take some tourist shots...

and for all you FF's

So today I ride out of Kelowna, up to Vernon and then across to Naskup and then Revelstoke....really hazy and smokey...and not the good kind!

but it's all good....

Eventually I get to this....

But I call it a day in Golden...I could still use some sun.

So I wake up in Golden, BC....

Looks like another wet day....

On a good note, the bike is still there.....

and a few more rolled in overnight....

Anyway...off I go into the parks......

Trying to watch the road and traffic and not the surroundings....don't want to go wide on a curve up here...eventually I get into Calgary, stuck in road repairs traffic jam in the rain...so time for a hot meal. I find a Husky in Strathmore and get one...

mmmmmmmm...hot beef, warms the soul while screwing with da colon!

[Ya not that way you FF's]....not that there is anything wrong with that.

Anyway, off to the prairies....where the clouds never end...

or do they?

Well the weather does hold off so I can get to Swift Current..

Eventually I find a motel with a room...damn casino...and look what I find in the parking lot...

but wait.....who could possibly be driving this car?

well it's this guy......

go figure would love to see the look on a cop's face as he walks up to the window...

All in all a good day....

The next day comes and away I go....trying to make some distance today, like to get to Ontario...no rain, but it is coming....very windy, like keeping the bike leaned over to go straight windy...but eventually it clears...and I do get to ON.....Willard Lake to be exact....been driving in the dark for about an hour and the cold and watch out for moose signs convince me to stop at the hunt camp/motel on 17 just past Kenora....I had gas...(bought some gas off a guy filling at a card lock station for cash) but just kept freaking myself out about hitting the local wildlife....I just kept remembering this.....

So I stop for the day......did not take any pics until I get to Willard Lake...

When I wake up and go get a coffee, I meet the four dogs that live there...

da hound...

Ginger

Whiskey

and my fav...Bear..

Damn, I miss my dogs....

So I hang out and bum a smoke and shoot the shit with the truckers and play with the dogs and then hit the road early...should make Wawa I think...sure buddy...sure.

met some interesting people today....

So I am off from Willard Lake and it's all good.... stop for lunch at Upsala. Meet a couple on a V star and they are nice...the usual bike talk etc.
They leave before me and I see them checking out my the rear end of my bike...whatever...then I leave and this comes rumbling in...

Parks next to me...I say Hi and the first words out the guys mouth are 'This bike is running like shit!' Ok....I refrain from the usual brand humour...he looks at my bike and says 'Holy shit...your rear tire is toast!'

He is right of course.....

He recommends a shop in Thunder Bay to get a new one...not the Harley shop...also sz I should check the falls in Kakabeka....

again..the Harley dude is right....

as I am leaving the park...I see this...

from the other side...

and the dude that owns it....nice guy...

So off I go to find the shop, Excalibur in TB...only the GPS has their old location on file, so I call them, (got the # from the first Harley dude, actually a really nice guy) and then punch in the new address and it's all good...so the tech is psyched...

the tire is really fried....must have been the praries!

the service mgr has a Metzler (M1 I think) he can let me have cheap, as it old stock....less than half of the price of a newer Avon (storm I think) and I am getting a little price conscious at this point...

and away we go.......

Now I would really like to plug this place...they seem like good people, I got there just before closing, on a Friday...and they did it on spot...and if you like hot young blonde girls that ride dirt bikes this is the place for you....(sorry you FF's no pics, remember they are all someone's daughters ), ok here is someone's daughter....

remember, no means no......

......so what does stop mean?

Anyway, this is the place...

works for me.....I'd go back in a heartbeat...if I ever get back to TB....which I might just do, you see I did meet one more interesting person....

DOH!!!

well at least I got to ride away....I ask the officer if he can give me a break and he sz 'That would be roadside justice and I don't believe in that.' So me and my punk ass, yet polite, attitude then ask 'So how do you reconcile that statement with roadside impounding and suspensions?' 'Well that's different, that's the law!' OK then...no arguing with that logic, I also figure I should not push my luck.... (Well it has been over twenty years since I got a ticket....ah yes the old H2...that officer told me he could hear me coming before he even saw me)...this officer just kept on smiling, at one point I even said 'Ok you can stop smiling now..' and he replied 'I just love my job!'.....oh well, like I said...at least I got to ride away...

So I never did get to Wawa......maybe tomorrow...

So I ride to Nipigon on the new tire and it seems ok...find a motel for the night.

The next day starts out dry...but you know it's gonna rain all day...

and it rains all day....so I get a meal in SSM ...yes one more time...

Then the scariest part of the entire ride...southbound on the 400, on a Sat night in the rain with all the yahoos....but I survive to make it home...sweet fucking home...aaaaahhhhhhh....

you know...I've never been to the east coast....
