A sunny day and a potential rise in motor cycle crashes
I was enjoying a late lunch in the sunshine at my favourite cafe and watching all the fair weather riders negotiating the roundabout.
Looks like the crash rate is shortly going to increase judging from the standard of a lot of the riders I saw.
I could feel myself cringing as I watched a couple of "L" platers trying to get around the roundabout and wondering if they would be around to see christmas this year.
Of course, the Harley "outlaw" types with their excessively loud pipes were out and about, one bloke passing by three times with the bike at full throttle as he left the roundabout.
There was the usual run of teeshirt and sneaker types gingerly passing by, leaving their acceleration until they were clear of the leaning bit.
I felt quite out of place in my full leather suit, high vis vest and boots riding my little old DR650 but I felt quite chuffed as I stood my bike upright, put both feet on the pegs, let out the clutch and did a full lock turn out of my parking spot on the footpath and around the roundabout and off down the road.
Aah, there's a little bit of a showoff in all of us, I think. : )
I lay awaiting the approach of sleep, watching the constellations swing across the sky. Did I sleep that night - or was I caught for a moment into the ceaseless rhythm of space? Blank on the Map. Eric Shipton.
