The mounts that are actually on the radiator are what broke on mine, so you have to get a new top bracket, drill out the pop rivets, bend the fins out of the way trying to get the bottom piece of the rivet out and then mount the new one. It's an ugly mess when you're done. A functional ugly mess, but an ugly mess.
Sounds like having the bars could save a lot of time and trouble. It's not all just $$ I guess. Tnx for the info!

Dert Gerl, Law Dawg and everyone else posting, I'm convinced. Was never in doubt actually. Just trying to decide which to do first.

Based on the advice so far and the kind of riding I do, bars will be first on my list. Leaning toward the MoTechs.

If there is a hole punched in your engine case you might not be worried about a tweaked radiator?

Very true, oil pouring out of a hole in the case would be a bummer maybe more so than a radiator hanging from it's hoses.
Sounds like a vote for getting a bash plate first?

I think you have more choice about what you roll over and how fast than your do about what you end up falling on.

I broke my top left radiator mount (pics on the break and fix in another thread way back last fall -- the fix hasn't really held that well and it's just a zip tie at this point) and recently put in the touratech hard part which makes the radiator mounting MUCH more secure.

I have SW-Motech bars now so hopefully the radiator is well protected.
