My chain failed ( broken side plate ) at 2000 miles. It happened on a gravel road and I was told by BMW that it would not be covered under warranty because I was off roadIsn't that what the bike was made for?
This happened at about 20 mile mph

you gotta be kidding. I'd take the 800 brochure in there to that dealer. He insulted you my friend.

I wish I was kidding DP In the end I had to buy a new chain ( RK gold) on my dime and my dealer cut me a bunch of slack on the install.

bmw told my service manager they would not cover failures of this type under off road conditions

Wait until you here about my rear wheel bearing failure @ 70 mph during my vacation last week We are still sorting it out

So is it the 116 links in the RK 525?

I'm ready to order one, I just want to make sure 116 is enough.

John, you buy rhe 120 limk chain. You have to cut it to order whic is 116 link I believe. Check in the book on that before cutting, but I think I remember it at 116 when I cut mine.

John, my dealer ordered the new chain for me and did the swap when it arrived .
I'm not exactly sure about the link count, but I know they had to remove a few links from the new chain. (they gave me the extra's)

116 sounds right though

From here you can order it in link increments. If I'm going to cut it down to 116 anyway, I'd rather buy it this way.
Besides, I don't have a cutter or tool, so I will have a local shop put it on for me.
