Traveling WV in the spring.

My father and I are planning a trip from the Philadelphia area out to Louisville to visit my uncle in the spring. We would like to go through WV on route 50 out to Louisville, then south and come home via blue ridge parkway and the skyline drive. My question is how early in the spring would the trip have a good chance of mild weather. We will doing some camping, and am also concerned about the trip being a total wash out with the spring rain.
