Birmingham, AL area ride recomendations

There is a chance I might ride over to visit family in the Mountain Brook area soon (possibly this coming weekend). I have not been to the area on two wheels before, only in a cage. Are there any recommended sites, roads, etc. that I need to check out? I like some of the old mine pics and stuff in the Alabama Tag thread. Any suggestions or must sees? ?

in west-northwest jefferson county, there are wonderfully twisty, hilly, well-paved roads, especially near the warrior river. some of the main roads in the area are river road, taylors ferry road, alliance road and camp oliver road - and all of the paved fish camp roads that run off of them, plus gravel roads on mining land. if you're into dirt riding, mulberry fork wildlife management area across the river in walker county has hundreds of miles of dirt/gravel two-tracks. grab yourself an alabama gazeteer, and maybe a warrior river map, to go along with the stuff you can gps and google/earth.
