Has anyone tried this lowering kit for the 800GS?

I saw that Touratech had a lowering kit for the F800GS made by Hyperpro. I gotta admit, that even with the low seat, I'm damn near on my toes. This would drop it 2". Heck, that would even allow me to get the Sargent seat and still be 1" lower than I am right now.

Aside from some ground clearance, what other disadvantages might there be in going with this kit? Center stand or side stand issues? FWIW, I'll be 80%+ on pavement with only occasional gravel/dirt roads.

Brief Description:
The height lowering kit by Hyperpro, the Dutch specialist for suspension products. The set includes replacement fork springs and a replacement spring for the shock absorber. This spring set provides you with a sensible 2 inches (50-mm) reduction in height without affecting the riding properties - at the expense of a little ground clearance..

The set includes replacement fork springs and a replacement spring for the rear shock absorber. The progressive springs have been designed to match the F800GS perfectly, and offer a tremendous improvement in response and greater safety in extreme situations. Replacing the front and rear springs will lead to a significant improvement in your suspension system.

Delivery includes detailed installation instructions, the correct fork oil and a special fork seals grease to improve the suspension action and sealing.

Mulewife has the same kit, although we didn't get it from TT.

She ordered her F8GS with the F650 centerstand, and I'm waiting on the side stand from Chicago BMW (should arrive this week).:fingerscrossed

The lowering kit should be on shortly thereafter.

Should be perfect for her.

I have/had Hyperpro full length springs on my 800 gs and they worked fairly well. Not only will you lose ride height, you will lose a like amount of travel. Maybe not important for your riding situation. You know that the front has a spacer don't you? Seems like you could achieve the same reduction by removing it. There are threads on "F800 Forum you may find interesting.

Are these alterations mandatory/recommended if you lower the suspension? If so, why?

The shorter side stand IS mandatory on a bike with lowered suspension. With a long side stand and 2 in lowered suspension, the side stand will support the bike beyond level, ie it will fall over.

Yes, as Wisman stated above, if the F8 side stand is used, the bike would go beyond "center" and fall over.

Talked to Chicago and the side stand should be here this week.

She's getting antsy with the bike just sitting there. Had to put a couple boards under the bike so the F6 centerstand would reach the ground.

If you don't mind my asking, how much would the 650 center and side stands set me back?

Just trying to get a total cost for making this mod.

Also, can anyone comment on differences in handling characteristics, etc?

Side Stand $125.77

Center Stand $160.95

Both of which can be purchased at Chicago BMW for 20% discount. (if you don't mind waiting )
