18L Fuel Tank for 2006 KTM 625 SMC
I've been trying to find a new tank to replace the factory one on my 625 SMC. KTM makes a few different sizes and I believe I found an 18L stock black tank that will fit in the catalog. Does anyone know if it really does? Are there any mods that need to be made to the bike? Is a new seat involved?

test fitting of tanks
Gday. I've got a 11/'05 (2006) 640 SM, and have test-fitted the factory 18L tank on mine. It fits the frame OK, and the standard seat fits up too, but yes, beware the seat issue. I bought a gel seat from a dealer, but it turned out they gave me one for an E model, and it didn't fit. The SM seat will go onto an E, but not vice-versa. Also, check clearance between the FCR-MX and the tank, very close, if you decide to get a tank to fit from the 640 SM, might need a heat-gun. If Ktm have a listing for the 625SM 18L, then ou're laughing. Aqualine (makers of Safari Tanks) make a 17L and also a 27L tank to suit the 625 E, but it needs the standard thermofan on the left radiator lowered or replaced with a 12V flat computer-style fan, because it hits the fan motor. If you can work around that, or be bothered, you get a tough tank for heaps less than KTM factory (here in Oz it's about $350).
Hope it all helps. ![]()

18L Tank & Seat
I put the 18L tank and the corresponding 640 seat on my 06 SMC. You can get all the parts from Munn Racing in Texas. Check out ... http://www.ktmtalk.com/.
I ended up getting the tank, fill cap, yes it's different and the seat. Even before I put anything on the bike I sent the seat to Renazco Racing and had him do up the seat. Now it's like an all day sucker. He did my BMW also. The OE KTM seats must come from the devils work shop.
