'74 Ducati 750 GT

I don't have much mechanical expertise; so, I had some motor and ignition work done by Dr. Desmo in Evanston, IL. I replaced the front master cylinder and caliper, but most everything else is stock.

Here are some pix:

It's an electric start, but the starter innards are removed and I use the kicker. Tom Rolland on the bevelheads board has been very helpful. Mine was brought to the US from South Africa; so getting it titled was a bit of a chore. The seller bought the bike in SA and used it as a commuter. He repainted and refurbished it very nicely, but not as thoroughly as you.

Some tidbits:

I have this Pantah 600 fairing in the rafters but I'm not sure I want to install it as it will need clip ons and repair.

A '75 750 won best vintage in Ducati Island at this year's MotoGP.

This is my son riding the GT to MotoGP on qualifying day.

In Ducati Island

A picture of the bike made it to Superbikeplanet.com (top right photo)

That's a nice looking bike. You don 'tsee many of the 750GTs with the electric start on them... and even fewer people who use them.

I think I'd leave the fairing off of it...

I expect Tom R will have told you but the electric start 750GT is one of the rarest Ducatis around - I can't remember the numbers but very few about. I've had mine for 25 years now and have replaced the ES clutch cover with a standard roundcase one but still have all the parts ready to go back on when I get too old for the kickstart!
I've never seen that colour before but it looks really good - enjoy it.

Rolland sold me the first part I bought for my rebuild - the left side switchgear.

That's the Indy MotoGP? I had my 750 there in '08 but brought my 996 in '09.

I've tracked a couple of clutch covers on ebay but bailed out on the bidding when they got north of $800.

Yep. It was just this last August. There was a prime, restored GT from Wisconsin in the OEM color that won the vintage award.

Did you attend the Ducati owners dinner at the Country Inn & Suites? The guy who organizes it owns a 750 GT as well as a stable of Ducs inc an early bevel single, Multistrada and a couple of others. He owns Scottish Woods in the middle of great riding country on the Murphy Highway between Murphy, NC and Blairsville, GA.

We rented a very nice cabin for a riding weekend. We used to own acreage and a cabin just a few miles south of Scottish Woods but sold just before the real estate price slide.

Tom's a helluva guy. He's always been willing to help with parts and advice.

Yep, I know George. Met him at VMD in 2005, already "knew" him from the bevelheads list though.

Here's one that someone in my riding group just restored.

It's been in his family for many years.

Very nice. Thanks for posting. What's are the machines behind the bike--huge mills?

I agree, but can't bear to sell any parts.
